If you are not dead set on cattle for beef and just want animals, hair sheep/goats might be an option as well.

No joke. Around here everybody brands. They might not get vaccinations or anything, but they'll get cut and branded. Too much money not to.

My wife tries to name one here and there, I have to remind her they're numbers not names.

In Texas it is by county. Lots of brands here.

If they are potentials or #1 ropers, they bring at least 50% more than beef calves right now. West Texas anyway.
