How so you all treat your cattle for flies? I only ever used a pour-on but that is hard to do when they are out on pasture. I was wanting to use a rope between to post for protection, but dont know if they will use it.
What would be wrong with being on concrete? I use to raise dairy heifers in a barn with concrete floors for years, maybe it would explain some of the problems that I had.
I was told no grass clippings because the cows can not tell the differance between the grass and any weeds that might be harmful to them. When out in pasture they know what they can eat and what not to eat.
More than likley its lice we get it around this time of year. I apply pour-on cylence once and than reapply in 3 weeks, this takes care of it. If it is worming time we use cydentin also works.
We dehorned 2 this year with bands and worked good, same bands we use for banding.(very little bleeding) We did our first one about 5 years ago and was terriable everytime the horn was bumped it would bleed bad. Decided to try it again and worked very nice.
When we raised holstein heifers, when they would get scours the best thing I found was feeding a product called Deliver. Feed Deliver for three or four feedings. It turns to almost like jelly so it had to be fed kind of fast, but it stays in their system that way.
