Can Breeding Stock be too tame?

Docility is something we aspire for and I don't think they can be to tame. But, their environment must be managed...less a swing of the head may cause the need for hip replacement. A cattle stick length away makes me feel better. I am reminded of a cattleman from Tyler, Texas who once said to...

What do you think of this cow?

That is a nice mama cow and an excellent calf. The udder is typical(our opinion) of a Herford and becomes pronounced with 5-7 year age. The sire is an attention getter but, I bet you wish he had a little more leg...?

Pics of new Red Angus Bull

John, The professional description by Doc Harris is excellent. Also, I have never seen a RA with such phenotype. I am referring to the rather normal front assimilation and the unusual feminine retracted rear quarters. Almost buffalo style. I am curious, is he a pure bred RA or...is he a...

    Hereford Photos Posted for Greenwillow

We are thinking of adding a good Polled Hereford bull to our Angus operation for some good black hereford crosses. Any thoughts on a good selection?...and why?

    Opinions on new bull

For a 5 YO of that breed something seems amiss. He does not have a normal BCS and in fact looks unusually thin. Almost like he was deprived as a calf and not allowed to develop. Do you know his early calf history/conditions? Can you tell us what his last 6 months history is? Breeding...

Out with the old...In with the new

The biggest improvement for the new bull would be ...if he was black ;-) and a lot less sheath.

    selling bulls

The demise of the Angus demand has been predicted for decades. However, factually speaking we will see some changes in recent trends. We can expect to see size level off and probably receed. As a leader angus must address the drop in the % of top harvest grades. The growing demand for grass...

    Some down-under cattle

Put..., Nice...very nice. Understand why she is at the top................. and would be in any breeding program. Is she a Rito or Ideal cow? Udder.....how old is she?

Hereford Bull what do you think

GM..., If you are keeping him I would get tip weights on those horns. Take them down a little more.

    Angus EPD question

Bill, How many calves does he have on the ground? What is his EN EPD?(it would almost be a miracle if that could be used for ID)

    Does Calf Size Matter?

======== I too disagree with the statement. Good genetics are telling us we can end with the same product with less stress and demands on dam. Brandonm, How about BW in the 60-70 range and 205 Adj. WW 650-700. Acceptable? Our avg BW ..fall '06 was 67#. Those guys are approaching 600. (eye...

    Angus Beef Lawsuit

Scotty, It is like other products...if a retailer is going to tout angus he must comply with truth in advertising.....he must know it is angus. It is his responsibility. Having said that I hasten to add.. the consumer always pays the bill...one way or another.
