    Please discuss this bull.

Excellent carcass values. Probably a bit taller than I like but can't be perfect. Hopefully looks as good as his epds.

Are all bottle calves social idiots?

Could there be something wrong with her eyes so that she prefers the dark? Having a white face does make them more sensitive to light but not usually that extreme.

    Angus x

On whether the cow carries the red gene. If she does then 50% of the calves should be red when she's crossed with a red bull. If she's homozygous black then all of her calves will be black when crossed with a red bull.

    Thoughts on this for AI

We have a couple Hoover Dam heifers this year. VERY nice and pretty mellow acting too.

    Butts and SaleBarn

We were never docked with having double muscle crosses in previous years. I suppose like everything else it very much depends on the area you are selling them at.

    4H heifer pics

Kat 18A - pros nice level topline and adequate depth con would really like a little more hip length Lady Lou Lou 12A - pros nice depth and muscling cons not as balanced as the above heifer, would like longer Is there any chance to ID both of these and see what they end up doing/ looking like...

    Genetic changes

Yes, being polled was a mutation. Also any color other than wild allele brown (dun) was a result of mutation.

Which terminal bull I should use?

Totally agree on the Limmi. Since your in Minnesota there are some great ones close and it seems like smokies don't do as well price wise here.

    No White Face ?

Does the bull have color around his eyes at all? Sometimes even the registered Herfs do and their calves seem to have less white on their faces.

    G A R Prophet Reg: AAA +16295688

Considering he's young in the photos it's not bad. I would expect shorter (not tall) calves with good looking bodies from him. I have a cow that is related to his dam that is great. She seems to be pretty typical of this bloodline (not real tall, amazingly wide, and an ugly head). I would...

    Black vs. Red

Depends on the individual animal. We have and have had both for 10+ years. There are nice ones and ones you ship asap. We currently have mostly black angus due to their popularity. Finding good ones with good dispositions for breeding stock was easier for the blacks because of the large amount...

    multiple trait leaders

It really depends on what your cows look like and need improvement in. Also some traits are usually better being average or around there (height, mature weight, milk). Do you want to sell live feeders, freezer beef, or breeding stock? It makes the traits you're looking for in an AI bull a little...

Feeder and Packer Acceptance of Limousin Cattle

Nope, only helped the Holstein once when she was a heifer. The rest of the herd was Angus, Hereford and Saler cross.

Feeder and Packer Acceptance of Limousin Cattle

Limousin as a terminal sire is well accepted here in northern Minnesota. We have had Limo bulls a couple times in the past and they always had nice beefy calves (even out of my pet Holstein cow). But you are more likely to have to pull calves by them. If you have the cows for it there a great...

    First calf this year

Calf sure looks red to me. Which means that mom carries the red gene color and so does dad. The calf may get darker but unless the color is really off on these photos red will always stay red.

Char influenced cattle Vs. All black

Here (northern Minnesota) if it's not solid black or solid red it's docked.

    Buying a Bull

Both Angus and Chiangus can be great or horrible for you. It really depends on what you have available in your area. I'd recommend going around to you're local sales barns and seeing what sells well and what gets docked (color, shape and pattern wise especially). Get as many bull catalogs as you...

    Black Angus bull calf.

How big are your scoops? You should weigh the amounts of feed he gets then we will have a more accurate answer for you. I believe he should be getting more coastal though.
