    Hobby farmers = beef producers

I have friends that don't raise cattle and some that got out when prices fell , but both are in beleif that the beef markets going to crash again. I may be in denial but I dont see how it could with the demand so high and people selling farmland off for subdivisons.

    Strange Occurance

I tried to explain that to my neighbor but he still believes "SELECT" is the best you can buy. I guarentee you he'd pay more for it.

    One Question

I was pleased with a long horn crossed with angus.

    Longhorn 3n1's

I got all kinds of eye candy cows and I like looking at them and people like buying them, BUT I have made more returns on my money with long horns than the high dollar cows. You buy that cow for $300-$350 and cross her with a black bull or char. bull and if they dont pattern you'll get a...

    longhorn cross cows

I have a few longhorns that I cross with my angus bull and the calves did real well. Alot better return: $400 cows having a $600 dollar calves vs $1200 cows having $600 calves. I crossed them last year with my charloias bull and the calves ( though not black) are alot more impressive looking as...

    epd's

It was a dry year when I bought him and i was factoring that into his low weaning and yearling weights. I believe his 205 day weight was only 575lbs and his yearling was 880lbs. I put him on a few heifers this spring so I dont have any calves out of him yet.

    epd's

I bought a young angus bull with exellant epd's(high weaning and yearling weights) but now that he's two he looks like a runt. I know he's got great genetics but I dont like the looks of him. Would it still be possible for him to produce accordingly to his epd's or is he just a bad seed?

    How much do you tolerate?

I wont tolerate bad udders, cows that melt down raising a calf, cows or bulls I can't keep in, prolapsers, cows that raise poor calves, cows that wont breed back soon enough, heifers that remain open too long, cows or bulls that go completely insane when you corrall them up or any just down...

    Our New Bull

Your angle for marketing cattle in the near future

Not to get off the subject, and i do agree with the above posts, but my bigger profit margins have been off of selling good seedstock. I've been buying large groups of purebred angus plus or brangus heifers from dispersal sales and letting them pair out and flipping them. I've found it to be a...

SOMETHING TO BE SAID ABOUT BRANGUS COWS

I bought 60 more of those darn creatures becuase i thought they'd raise a better calf than did my angus plus, I'm gunning for the smokies. Funny you should bring up herefords, You wouldn't believe how many times i said hereford on that day, probably about as much as I said some of those awful...

    Whats the Motivation ?

I'm in agreement with goddy, an evaluation of someones elses property should be constructive. If it happens to be an animal thats not up to par then those areas can be pointed out in a constuctive manner rather than just lashing out about how much they suck. I have to look at dozens of trade-ins...

SOMETHING TO BE SAID ABOUT BRANGUS COWS

yOU KWOW YOU HAVE DONE SOMETHING WHEN YOU'VE WORKED 100 HEAD OF BRANGUS FIRST CALVE HEIFERS. It was a holy nightmare. If they didn't try to go thru the shoot then it was over it, if they weren't trying to run around you then it was over you. If you needed them over here then they went over...

how about a critique on this bull?

    what breed to pick

I run different crosses on each farm, I'm always changing bulls each year on my cows and i enjoy trying something different each year but I have to say the most profitable cross for me has been the angus/brangus cross cows on a char. bull. Those calves out grew the others by far and brought a...
