Cows not coming back into heat.

Put a patch on them. That's the only way you can have any clue if they're cycling or not. Prostaglandin will cause them to come into heat if they are already cycling, and ONLY if they are already cycling. To cause a cow to cycle that is NOT cycling, you will have to use a CIDR.

    Worming on breed day

Parasites and flukes are terrible here. If we missed a deworming we would have serious problems. If I had to weigh the risks between MAYBE losing a pregnancy that hasn't even occurred yet, and missing a deworming...that's not even a hard choice. We would absolutely deworm.

    When to place patches?

Yeah, I wouldn't think they pour-on would matter since you did it that long ago. A friend of ours cleans his with alcohol first...those patches stay on forever. We use the tacky cloth and it does a pretty good job on loose hair.

    When to place patches?

15-16 days after AI. Are they shedding really bad to have that many patches come off?

Why is his EPD negative but good?

Talking to the Genetrust guys is an option. Just tell them you're looking for commercial semen to use on heifers. They usually have some they sell commercially and it would save you a few dollars. Most of their inventory is in Wheelock, which is just a few minutes from CS.

    Recips?

I would absolutely have them tested for BLV. I'd also be leery of putting any really high BW embryos in them, but that's just MPO.

Why is his EPD negative but good?

Are you looking to breed him to heifers?

    Need a good BullMaker

I'm not an expert on Angus by any stretch of the imagination, but we saw a bull calf at a sale around here sired by Tour of Duty that was built like a tank. We may be trying him out on our Brangus in the future to make Ultrablacks.

    cost of Embryo Transfer calf

Ballpark is $400 for the flush, $50/embryo to freeze or transfer. Then you have cost of drugs + semen, and maybe board. Pretty economical if you didn't spend megabucks on the donor and she flushes good.

    O ring or Twist

Kombicolor. O rings are terrible, and you really have to muscle them onto the twist guns. Between o ring and twist, definitely twist.

    Semen tanks

We've had our XC 20 for close to 10 years and it still looks like new. By far, I think it's the most bang for your buck. We got ours on sementanks.com for about $500. I think that's still pretty close to what they are now.

    Vaccinate at AI time ?

I hate to admit it but a lot of ours get worked the same day we put in cidrs. Haven't ever noticed a problem. We use killed vaccine and ivomec plus. The whole point in giving multimin early is to help their fertility. Not gonna do much good getting them to stick when you give it so close to...

    AI Sire

We bought a bull at the MC sale a couple years ago that's pretty closely related to yours. Breeding his first crop of heifers next week...they are growthy, for sure!

    Patches vs. Painting

Patches. The adhesive is better than it used to be, and we rarely have a cow lose one. Just don't put them on right after you use fly pour-on! We had to use paint that day. Oops.

    Donor Cow

I would absolutely go with a proven donor. Buying something that's never been flushed before is a real cr@p shoot.

    Help-AI Trouble

You could have a short piece of rope tied to the side of the chute to tie her tail with. Just don't forget to untie it before you let her out! When I have one being difficult and throwing lots of rings, I just thread through them until I can get at least half of my arm in, then pull back and...

    Help-AI Trouble

My last box of blue super sensitive continentals were a pain, too. Fwiw...that box was pretty old. I tried a box of the clear continentals...I use those to stuff trash in when I'm done.

BioPryn Blood PG test -- alternate method for blood draw?

There's a pretty good vein in the ear if you give up on getting it out of the tail.

    Problem with heifer

Some friends of ours had one like that. Several of us tried and nobody could get it in. We gave up on her.
