    Feeding pregnant heifer.

Main thing to remember other than having her in good shape.... The calf will grow more in the last trimester than any other time. So, if you are pouring the feed to her then, the calf is growing more and more. I would keep her right where you have her. Good luck

    Grain Mixture

I would go to your local feed store and get a 11 or 12 % high grain feed. Feed them 2 - 3 % of their weight per day. You can add the cracked corn to the feed.

    Developing Bulls

We hand feed our char bulls until they are 1 year old... They are in a 40 acre trap and are fed a 12% high grain feed. After they turn a year old we put the bulls on coastal and decrease the amount of feed from 3% body weight to 1-1.5% body weight per day... The closer we get to sale the less...

    Feeding calves

To touch on TexasBred's comment... If you limit feed them you are trying to get them to eat more grass/hay and less feed... With your limited amount of forage you don't want to do this.... I would go with the 10-12% textured feed and let them eat what they want... You can get some of the 10%...

    3 lbs/daily gain possible??

I would say it is not possible if it is a show steer... Not on a 9% feed... Maybe a 12% high grain diet letting him eat all he wanted... It all depends on what breed(s) are in the calf... What is his breeding? If it was mostly maine anjou, it might be possible... If it where my steer and my...

I thought you might like to see the growing ration I feed.

You get what you pay for! :o If you buy a cheap feed, you get a cheap feed. If you buy a good feed, you get a good feed!

    Hanging time

Tell your butcher to hang your half as long as you would like and let the other guy cut his up when he wants. It shouldn't be that hard to hang your half longer since the animal will be cut in half to hang anyway.

Raising Registered Bulls and Bull development

I usually feed my bulls all they will eat until they get 12 months. This allows the bulls to put on as much muscle as their genetics will allow. After that I turn them out in a big trap and feed cottonseed cubes 3 times a week. I haven't had a customer complain about the bulls falling apart...
