    Scours

I must miss something in this post just where did they say the pastures are rich and lust???????I see that they are full of mud. Mud and other crap cause scours especially if they have been under stress from weather extremes.Everyone is seeing that this year the rain and snow precip. where it...

    Flushing my new donor cow

That is fine if you are close to a well populated area or near facilities but alot of breeders on this board can not get a Vet to call them back let alone come out to their place so where are they supposed to find an animall sci college. You don't have to buy the embryos but I know alot of...

    Palpation

I think that is a really good idea make sure to let us all know how acucurate the tests are to the tried and true exam by your best Vet.Besides if you don't have to pay anything what have you got to lose besides putting your girls through that extra stress of two exams. If you have a really good...

    Flushing my new donor cow

Alot of yearling show winners are flushed especially if they are really deep pedigreed animals. It is better flush them alive and have the wait and see approach than to have an unfortunate accident happen and you have no young stock out of that animal. To late to say I wish we would have flushed her.

    Flushing my new donor cow

Usually the youger they are the more fertile they are; therefore you should get more quaility eggs.Just make sure you get her thoroughly checked before you spend time and money. The embryologist that I am buddies with always suggests ultrasounding an animal if she has never been flushed before...

    Did she slip a calf?

So let me see if I got this right she calved Oct.5 2006 and got bred back Nov.4 2006.If that is true not enough clean up time you are pushing to a leval where she can't maintain a pregnancy it just isn't natural. So instead of halving stillborn or calves with birth defects Mother Nature aborts...

    Did she slip a calf?

Next time not so close with the pics it is around dinner time  If you let her get bred her very first heat after calving then she probably had not had time to clean up and would then absorb or lose the calf because of a weak sack around the fertalized embryo and possible swelling and scar...

Beccajean I am sure no one is offended .What do you mean you've had a rough morning?I thought things were all lilacs and daisies in the PB black angus industry ;-) Just playing with you please do not take offence.I think everyone feels the same this time of year that we are all on a short rope...

How Often should a day old calf nurse?

I have just read this post for the first time and it is easy to get excited when you don't see them nurse especially when it seems like every time you go check the little was is sleaping like a log. But I don't understand this last reaction to the previous comments this is a forum where...

    Estrumate vs Lutalyse

Lutalyse is a product first discovered by Upjohn therefore it is more expensive than the generic brand just like people prescriptions.Go to any AI course and you will see the same old video/dvd of how Upjohn managed to market a synthetic gnrh drug. Now I hope I am right with my gnrh and...

    Palpation

jmo but it is probably a way to promote people using them for blood testing instead of calling your best Vet at 35 days and getting them checked. Also alot of embryo groups like to do ultrasounding to ensure pregnancy I know it is mostly to determine the sex but either way the price keeps going up.

Glad I am not the only one.Decided after the problems with calving in the past in the spring we would move it to mid Jan /Feb and then this crap hits us in the spring. The calves are getting sick the mud is so bad that my quad gets stuck. Can't kick the ones that have calved out to pasture yet...
