    Hereford Bull question.

If the hereford bull was not 100% hereford and the cow not 100% black bloodline, easily. I had an all brown heifer calf come out of a black brangus bull and a black brangus cow...... go figure... she looks like a darn red brangus... doesn't fit the other cows...

In heat twice in a week?

Kind of strange, had another cow this week do the same. Maybe pulling the calves started hormones and got him going and then they went into full heat. Not sure but thinking about waiting 3o days and having them ultrasounded. 2 doing the same is making me wonder.

    Bloody Discharge with no Plug?

I have a brangus angus cross that is due this week. 2nd calf heifer. Her first calf was a success. She has been bagging up for about 2 weeks and has been having clear discharge for about a week which I see all the time. I have been watching to see the bones on her legs widen and she looks like...

Stop feeding grain prior to calving?

Hey farm guy, I never feed straight grain as grain. I feed cattle feed that the feed store mixes whick has a mix of grain, corn, cotton meal etc...... Thats what we do round here... and those are usually before sales or guys running registered from what I see, or if your pastures or hay just...

Stop feeding grain prior to calving?

First calf of the year. Bred by a un registered virgin brangus bull. I cut feed last 3 months to hay, mineral and about 6 pounds a week of 11% cattle feed, just to keep her happy. She popped him out in about 30 seconds. I figure he is about 10 pounds lighter but a successful birth is what I...

    Birthing by Moon Phase

Hate waiting for cows to calve. 2 ladies, My mother in law, and a live in baby sitter(retired nurse) said cows birth closer to a full moon. I just thought this too superstitious crud. The nurse said she had more ladies in the hospital in labor on full moon nights. I thought they were crazy. The...

    Problem breeding back after lute?

Had a heifer 12 months old, 4 months bred. Gave her a shot of lute and she passed the fetus through. Now she is the last heifer not to breed. She has been with my bull since mid December. 2 weeks ago Vet said she might be bred or just a little swollen in heat. Anyone had a problem with a cow not...
