    Chicory

Are any of you familiar with Brow-Tine Chicory? I want to plant some chicory this weekend in an existing pasture, and Brow-Tine is a lot less than Puna. Anyone have any experience with it?

    Any experience with Forage Chicory?

I planted some puna chicory and crimson clover in early spring here in Georgia. The chicory is doing great now and has held up well all summer, with little rain and 100 degrees.

Planting Clover & Rye grass together

Thanks. I wasn't sure if the rye grass would shade out the clover or not.

Planting Clover & Rye grass together

I have a pasture that I would like to plant in Durana clover and Passerel Plus rye grass this fall. Can I no till them at the same time, or would I need to plant the clover first?

Clear trees for pasture or restore a pasture

I agree with your posts. I've bought real estate many times and, in the long run, you NEVER regret it. You do in the short run sometimes as people are now finding out, but this is a VERY LONG lifetime play for me. Sorry to be naive, but since I haven't done it, what is involved with taking a...

Clear trees for pasture or restore a pasture

I hope I can, but with the trees lot going for $3,000 per acre and the other one starting at $4,000-$5,000, it gets tough after a while to have it all!

Clear trees for pasture or restore a pasture

yeah, I agree...land ain't getting any cheaper, especially here within a couple of hours of Atlanta. It'll just keep going up.

Clear trees for pasture or restore a pasture

I may have an option to buy 50 acres adjoining me which is all trees (mainly scrub pine and sweet gum), or to buy 50 acres on the other side which is 60% pasture, but VERY run down and completely overgrazed (think hardwood floor). The one that is current pasture will cost me twice as much as...

    Hay vs. Silage

For the next 45 days or so (until the rye grass comes in), my plan is to fence them in an area where we're planting a new garden. I've put wood chips in there as well as spreading some deer corn. My plan is to put the hay or silage on the perimeter just under the electric fence, so the cows can...

    Hay vs. Silage

I need to feed 15 beef cows for 2 months in a confined area before I put them on pasture. Hay is tough to come by and is expensive, but a neighbor has a source for corn silage, which he said the cows would prefer and that it was fine for them nutritionally. I'm new to this and am looking for...

    Liming poor pasture

That's good advice, and mostly what I'm doing. I bush hogged everything as low as I could this weekend, and spent another weekend picking up large rocks. They're pretty much all gone now. The pasture is reasonably smooth...they're are a number of gulleys in it that I now plan to fill in as...

    Liming poor pasture

My pasture is divided into two fields. The one on the right is the one I'm most concerned with correcting and removing the weeds/broomsedge, dog fennel, etc. I just cut it low yesterday, plan to lime it this week and then just plant ryegrass (probably Passerl) right now. My thought was that if...

    Liming poor pasture

I'm doing the first liming next week on a pasture we're renovating. The average ph is 5.5 right now. On one 20 acre side which was formerly planted in winter annuals but has been abandoned for 10 years or so, there are a lot of weeds, with a big stand of broomsedge bluestem. I know the rule...

    Irrigation advice sought

I know why you want to irrigate. I'm next door to you in GA and we're thinking of irrigating this year with K-Line pods. Have you looked at those? It's an alternative to the creek. We have a creek too, but this year wouldn't have helped much as the creek is not flowing at all now. Here's a link...
