Why 40% moisture, I was told to bale at 65% and I have water in the bale on the bottom but it doesnt seam to hurt it.

I feed around 150 bales of baleage over the winter and believe it or not they dont freeze that hard, they just get a little crusty on the outside.

Thanks for the replies, by what I am reading I need to cull my thinner cows, keep replacements from my fatter cows,and get a bull with a high feed converstion rate. Maybe after many years I can have cows survive on just a hay and pasture diet, am I correct?

Does a mineral program have an effect on how cattle hold their weight or gain weight?

How do you select for easy doing cattle? Do you look at epd's( which epd's), do you look at the cattle from which you buy replacements? I ask because I know that my cattle would not look like they do now on just grass and hay. I feed corn silage and alalfa baleage and a ground corn, soybean...

I cant believe that you are cutting brome for the first time in Nov. and it is still alive. My brome would be dead by July, I try to get mine cut by middle of June and a second cut in Oct.

I would put the cattle in and let them eat what they want and then bushhog what they dont eat.

If the heat ruins the protein than how come haylage and silage even wrapped round bales have higher protein than when the crop is dried, all silage goes through a heat cycle.

I also found out that net wrapped hay seems to shed water better than twine wrapped, but net had gone up alot this past year.

The bottom wire isnt grounded it is just there. When I was running the fence I put extra crimps on the wires where I connected the power and where I put in gates so all of the wire is crimped together.

I run a 5 wire high tensile with 4 hot wires. I want to make sure they dont get out.
