    Soil Health and Fertility

HD, last year was the first time I looked at the Texas A&M info on the nutritional value of Gulf Coast grasses. Rye grass and clovers typically have twice, TWICE the protein of Bermuda. We also have variability in the nutritional value between silage cut on hilltops versus the stuff we get out...

Suggestions for new small acreage owners

Grit, not tryin to start a fight but that's the best part of life; learning from your mistakes. Why would you deprive a person from that because he can only afford 15 acres? It's pretty darn arrogant to assume someone else doesn't have internet access and a basic knowledge of search engines...

Suggestions for new small acreage owners

Just walk over there and tell 'em you're the Nanny State Nosy Neighbor rep for your area and you want to look over their shoulder 24/7. I know I enjoy that kinda neighbor explaining to me how much smarter they are and how important it is for me to obey their advice.

    Satansbos (Solanum elaeagnifolium

You don't want to use picloram near pecan trees, either. Probably not a problem in South Africa but Pecans are big money in Georgia. It blocks the transfer of zinc between cell walls, causing plant life to suck it out your soil at a ridiculous rate. You can kill an entire pecan orchard with the...

How long does lime take to "work"

You may not notice it but after a good rain the lime will raise the nutritional level of your grasses. This year I applied 500 pounds per 2 acres, which is basically two strips with a broadcast spreader thru each acre. The cattle ate the strips of grass that were limed, first.

    How Expensive is "Cheap" Hay

The low spots are Bahia grass that pretty much never dies. On small hills I planted the tetraploid Rye grass from Texas A&M. I use a broadcast seeder in mid October and reseeded the spots I missed two weeks ago. There is a lot of native rye and clover coming up, too. 2 acres per head, rotating...

    How Expensive is "Cheap" Hay

Most of the round bales for sale in this area are not worth the time and money to fool with them unless you are looking for a couple hundred pounds of seeds from different species of weeds. Best investment you can make is putting in the time and effort to plant winter forage. Took this...

    clover and grazon

Just wanna add some personal experience: you will need to use a fertilizer with added zinc in the spots you sprayed. Every feed store in your area will have it to fertilize pecan trees. Grazon creates a zinc deficiency in the soil. Even the weeds get rosettes in the fields where you use Grazon...

    Dalis Grass I think

Clip the seed heads before you let cattle in to graze it. Never had problems with it, usually it gets grazed so hard it doesn't go to seed on my place. Cattle love it. http://www.ncsu.edu/forage/dallis.htm

    Cide kick II Surfactant

TT, the joke in the SEC is that LSU fans stink. The non alumni fans are called "corn dogs". Yeah, it's true. The last game I attended had me worried I was going to catch the plague from the stink arse old woman with severe halitosis who screamed "DEFENSE" for 2 hours in my ear. I guess other...

    Cide kick II Surfactant

You don't need a penetrant for foliar sprays like 24d if you spray before 9am. Plants that utilize a heavy waxy coating to retain moisture do most of the respiration at night. During the day the breathing holes are closed tight. A penetrant is for herbicides like Remedy that work when sprayed...

This makes too much sense, what a good idea. Most of your non-toxic paint and varnish removers are citrus based.

Cup of coffee bet says they are referring to the light mineral oil you can purchase from the big boxes. There are several brands for natural wood finishes. The kind of oil you would use to clean a big wooden salad bowl.

    What is it?

There are many varieties of Senna, but you won't kill any of them with 24d after they start flowering. Save your money Fire Sweep and use straight Remedy. 24d only works during the growth phase and only if the plant still has the apical meristem. If it has been mowed or is going to flower it is...
