    Prolapse

Will go against the grain. Had a prolapsed uterus this last week with a heifer. Had to pull a huge bull calf. Calf and mama are doing fine. Yea, had a $140 vet bill but am going to keep the gal around or least I think I am. Got to take the stitches out tomorrow or Friday. Prolapsed uterus not...

    Chicken litter wait time?

Green Creek, if you think chicken litter stinks just wait till you put some turkey litter down! Regarding grazing time, I used to live in NW Arkansas and had neighbors that would feed their cattle chicken litter mixed with crappy hay. Guess the protein content of the litter was over 16% so I'd...

Quality of meat in a butchered bull

I'd band him and then wait at least 90 days before butcher. Got to remember though there is now a "cut off" time as to when a custom butcher can come out and do the deed, least there is here and I think it is around 30 months. They will mouth him to check the age. If over I think 30 months they...

    O.T. Are people getting stupider?

Yes they are. They are doing stuff like putting OT posts on the Beginners Board instead of the Coffee Shop or Everything Else Board where it belongs ;-) ! J

    Salebarn Today

Caustic, I find your comment saying "unless it had ear" real interesting because my best cow has a bit of a stripe on her and her calves always bring lowest dollar for me but she never fails year after year to produce on time and is a great mama that even weans her own if I let her. I got...

Need advise on how to handle/move large square bales??

Thanks for all the replies. Got it all in the barn as of about an hour ago. It went smooth. Think I'd have had problems though had I not had the 2 foot plus long stabilizer spears at the bottom of my bale fork as well if these bales had ever been wet or were the 8 foot long one's. Had...

EQIP Program..... is it worth it?

I got approved for EQUIP last year. They paid half of a bunch of fencing I put in to get this place into more of a rotational grazing system, will be paying half for my lime, fertilizer, and seed that I'll be putting out by March 1. Not very restrictive at all. Like someone mentioned the money...

Need advise on how to handle/move large square bales??

That is the way I'm set up now. Using the tie down straps sound good but I'm a one man show and guess I could give it a try. Guess if I used the spear to "tilt" the bale then I could get the straps under them. All good ideas, just don't want to waste any hay so keep the ideas coming and thanks...

Need advise on how to handle/move large square bales??

Got lucky today and came across some great hay. Had to make a quick decision as the price was right, there were folks around that would have taken it all had I not as hay is very scarce around here right now so I bought a load and it's still on the trailer tonight. Problem is I've only fed and...

    "Warts........"

Had at least 5 heifers this year with warts on their faces. Read here they would go away. Did not really believe they would however figured folks knew what they were talking about. 6 months later and don't have a single heifer with warts. I even spoke with a vet once and asked if it was true...

    Livestock haulers

I'm not too far from Thayer (Houston/Cabool area) and have a 14 foot Neckover gooseneck trailer just sitting around rusting away that I'd consider renting you for not much at all. Might want a deposit though since I don't know you. Feel free to PM me if interested. I also got a friend from...

    Feeding cows

3MR, Nope. VanC, ya' really need to turn the volume up on that TV of yours cause least on the Bonanza I remember Hoss and CB are about as opposite as you can get. Now if ol' CB were to change his avatar to Festus from Gunsmoke that would make some dang good sense! Festus tells it like it is...

How Many of You Have Signed Up For Cost Share Programs?

I got an EQUIP grant this year to cover half of some new fencing, water lines, waterers, plus fertilizer and seeding. Do I feel like I'm on welfare? No way. I think we paid out around 45K in taxes last year. Would I rather MY tax money come back to me or go to some idiotic program some...

    Bull Hurts Older Lady

Sunday morning I was checking on my last 2 cows left to calve. I had ridden out to check them on the ATV and had also brought along some range cubes to dump out so I could do a quick herd check. I usually will feed out 25-50 pounds a week just to keep the cattle tame to me and also so I can keep...

    Calves in Squeeze Chute

I think right now Priefert only has 2 models out. One is an economy model and the other is supposed to be heavier and have more bells and whistles I think. Anyway I opted for the more expensive one. Picked it out during a cattle handling demo being done by a local dealer. Got a decent price on...

    Blackjack!

Hard to tell from the photo that he is in the 2K pound range, he may just be taller than any Limousin I've owned. I just sold our last Limousin bull a few weeks ago and he was in the 1800 pound range and looked a lot bigger than your bull. I am no expert by any means but your bull just don't...

    Sale Barn Cows

Dave, thanks for taking the time to clarify things for me. I guess in my mind I had this picture painted of some kid that just up and decided one day to go to a sale barn, buy cattle, and coming home putting them in his backyard or something like that :D ! Just funny how sometimes the written...

    Sale Barn Cows

Dave, I can't figure out how to just pull a piece from what someone wrote but your 9 out of 10 times rule is not right. You may think your sitting next to CB or Stocky at the sale barn but from what you have written I don't know about that. 16 years old, heading to the sale barn, buying your...

    Sale Barn Cows

Aplusmnt, some good advise has been given in this thread but remember the guys telling you to go make some money at the sale barn are the same guys I mentioned in a post earlier in this thread that more than likely have been going to their local auctions for well over 20 or so years and KNOW...
