need help with vermeer 605f baler

It's the slip clutches. They're pretty simple once you get to looking at them. You should have some asbestos plates that act as a clutch along the pto driveline. It kind of looks like a hamburger bun and the plates should be visible. You might have to get some new plates, then adjust the nut...

    Comments?

Anyone care to comment on this? http://www.agcenter.com/cattlereport.asp It pretty much sums up what I think about things.

Shortage of live cattle in the US?

No, plenty of feeders around here. I think it's just a matter of the big packers getting bigger. The packing industry is pretty cut-throat and it's tough to stay in business. Or it could just be a maneuver to leverage more subsidies and benefits from the state.

    Beef Checkoff Program

Voted to get rid of it. I don't expect to change anybody's mind but I just don't see how anybody can support the squandering of that many millions of dollars year after year. It's my firm belief that Atkins and the border closure has done more for cattle prices than the checkoff ever has. The...

    Legitimate BSE Info Site!!!

Good site. Something I'd like to find out is if BSE has ever been found in a beef cow. The cows I always see on tv, time and time again, are all dairy cows. I'd also like to know what the general herd health is like where these infected cows have been found. There's more than a few farmers...

    Sup-R-lix

When you're feeding tubs the cost per ton is terrible when compared to almost everything else; however, when you want something to give the cows once every couple weeks you don't have many options. I've fed more tubs than I care to think about and the Purina hard blocks are about the best. I...

    Mules

Thanks for the replies. I've heard, too, that they have incredible stamina; one of the feedyards use mules for riding pens and then the hands use the same mules to go coon hunting at night and then do it again the next day. Anyway, are they really smoother riding than a horse? (Guess that...

I do the Army Reserve thing but the commute is hell.

    Mules

So what's the deal? I don't know much about them so did some looking on the internet. Mule owners claim they're better than horses, so why aren't there more around? I'm not sure that I've been closer than 50 yards to a mule and I sure don't know anyone who has one. Anyway, my buddy is a...

    pinkeye

Haven't had a chance to try it myself but my neighbor uses WD-40 for pinkeye and swears by it. He didn't know if something in the oil cures the problem or if just keeping the eye closed for a few days did it. He keeps the tube on and shoots a blast at the eye; doesn't use a patch. For what...

    R-CALF Poll

Texan: some good points and some good questions. About the "billions". That was a strong statement and I knew it when I wrote it. Unsure how to check the actual total but a quick estimation, using your figure of $85,000,000 for 2003, average the total per year at say $70M/year (it seems like...

    R-CALF Poll

Every now and then I get long winded, usually it's a sign I don't know what I'm talking about. Now to continue (if anyone's interested). What do I think about R-Calf? Honestly, I don't know. Around my place they have a meeting maybe a couple times a month, usually at the salebarn. I've...

    R-CALF Poll

Don't remember looking at the poll but I might have and don't remember, sometimes I go through here pretty fast. Wouldn't have voted anyway as I don't like to stir the pot and I do enjoy this forum because it is pretty tame and not much for conflict. I do have some things to say, though...

    Early weaning

Most of the bottlecalves I've rasied have been weaned at 6 weeks. A lot of people wean at 30 days but I've always thought an extra 2 weeks really helps them along. Check with your feed dealer if they have a sweet feed to get the calves started on grain, if not then get some dry molasses and...

Truer words have seldom been spoken

Just have to step in and say something. I've had the opportunity to talk to quite a few kids (yes I'm getting to that age where I can say that) coming back from Iraq and I'm absolutely proud of the American service member. They are doing a super job up there. I hear what they are doing and I...

How I got my start in ranching

Cattle are sold for just about any reason you can think of, and bought by others for several reasons. A lot of cows, steers, and bulls are sold for butcher at salebarns. Someone else will have to weigh in on butcher prices; we have a special rate with our butcher as Dad trades Alaskan halibut...

How I got my start in ranching

Many thanks for your well-wishes, I do appreciate them. I don't feel like I'm in a very dangerous place, there's a joke that the (Camp) Arifijan hand grenade is a chocolate donut. I know I'm in probably the safest camp in theater and blessed to be able to feel secure all the time. My unit's...

How I got my start in ranching

The above post is mine. I was able to register but can't seem to be able to log in, I think the firewall on this gov. system won't let me. Anyway, now you can ID me.
