I have many years experience crossing the two breeds as we run both purebred Gelbvieh and purebred Red Angus. The hands down most consistent calves come from using angus bulls over gelbvieh cows. Dont ask me why!
The most impressive calves so far this year are the Ter Ron Mambo and Bodacious calves. I also like the Master Plan calves. I am least impressed with the Major League calves at this point. I have only had one Pasquale calf so far it was born light and seems like a decent heifer, but like the...
I have used llc Crand Canyon, TKP Bodacious, Cherokee Canyon, All Beef.
This year I have red angus calves by , Mulberry, Cheyanne ,Ter Ron Mambo, Bodacious, Mr Beef, Pasquale, Master plan, Major Lague, Red Carpet.

We use mostly angus A.I. sires over purebred Gelbvieh cows, but we do have a few PB RA clean up bulls. I recently purchased 31 PB RA cows and will be using A mix of A.I. and walking sires of both breeds.
I have seen some calves and I was not that impressed. Maybe I was expecting too much. Brylor has a bunch of bulls in this years sale catalogue (google on line)

No offense taken. I sometimes get a little too defensive because I do the very best to ensure my bull buyers don't get a burnt out bull. I have been down that road as a buyer and I spent a lot of money on a bull that melted like butter on...

if I could find another twenty buyers like you two i could sure save alot of money in feed and time! Please feel free to post some pictures of bulls that fit your feeding regime so that I can learn how to pursue your niche market. It has been my experience that the guys that...
From birth to October 30 they were on prairie wool and mothers milk. From October on they have been limit fed a 50% screening pellet 50% barley ration at 1% of weight and free choice grass hay. We performance test and have developed a good clientele for bulls with performance data. We have...
We have been raising balancers for about five years now. They are sought after by the ranchers that have used gelbvieh bulls on their angus cows and kept replacements, or the ranchers that want to keep their angus herds looking angus with a little gelbvieh influence for extra muscling and...
purebred must have 94% pure gelbvieh or better. Like the simmies we also have fullblood status that must trace back to germany and is a closed herd book.
I appreciate all your comments.

We use purebred gelbvieh and angus on both sides to produce "balancers" which the AGA recognizes and provides registration and EPd,s. We have started producing them to meet consumer demand and easily sell all that make the cut.

I dont know about exclusive, his sire "advantage " has produced the best uddered cows I have, and they milk well while maintaining a well suspended udder with small teats.
I agree with the statements that the Atlas cattle can be tight gutted. I also agree wholeheartedly with the white spot issue with echo. That being said the echo sired cows i have are second to none in the easy fleshing ranch style cow category. We used a bennett bonus son with great success in...
The oil boomers around here are buying the 1.5 mil acreages, but no cattle. They dont want the tie down and commitment that cattle create. There are some, however, that are investing in large tracts of land and leasing out to ranchers.
Here in Canada the average herd size is pegged at 150 by Statistics Canada. I do believe that the 400 mark is probably what it will take to make a half decent living. The herds are getting larger every year with many of the smaller producers getting out. The 50 cow outfit is just about extinct...
