Shorthorn herd sire - Gal Chaser

Wow, I'm glad I had nine layers of thick skin because the first layer was burned off. I've viewed this board for about three years finally was brave enough to post a pic. Wow, discussion was brisk... Yes, Gal Chaser by show bull standards needs 400-500#, but he wouldn't be out doing his job...

    Animal Pictures in Magazines Question

Our family just happened to update the photo library for our farm. Yes, some do alter there photos. All we do is take time and patience. As others have said, ditgital camera on side, one in back and one in front waving cap to raise head and move ears. I then download, crop and put ID # and name...

    Shorthorn Bull, Look him over

Thanks cowgirl for posting his images. As far as BW and calving ease. Wild Card isn't a bull for all heifers. But he isn't a cow killer as some bigger bulls are. We used him on only four heifers. Had to light pull two of them, no hard pulls. On his cow group no pulls all unassisted. Calves...

    Shorthorn Bull, Look him over

It is definetly the same bull. He happens to have a good coating of mud or something else on his legs in mature photo. I had just let him out of the bull pen to get a picture on grass. He wasn't taken to the wash rack as was his show photo.

    Shorthorn bulls

Agree with Killala, we like Scotty. Proof in USA, CA & AU. Our herd is using Shadybrook Scotty 83K for our A.I. group. His calves are great. Good lower birth rates and rapid growth. Great Milk EPD's. Top 1%. TH Free also. We used a paternal brother by Buckshot as a herd sire for couple years...

    Shorthorns without any Maine influence

The Haumont herd is out of western NE. They have no web site. Vera family had best info on there herd. Shorthorns without any Maine influence

Yes, Shorthorns do look different than 50 years ago. Our herd has used both native and other bloodlines. Both beef and dual purpose MS sires. But also some herds have retained the native bloodlines. No outside blood. Vera Land & Cattle of LA uses these old natives. http://www.verashorthorn.com/...

    Milking a beef cow?

Check out Dual Purpose Milking Shorthorns. You can have your family milk cow and raise a calf for your freezer beef. Several of our heifers have been used in both dairy, beef or family cow herd. Both sides of the fence. It is easier to break a 1st calf heifer to milk than a older cow, but one...

    cattle management software

There are several programs that would work for a commercial operation. It would be nice though if you found a program that interacted with your breed assn. on your registered herd. That way your EPD updates could be done without actually going in every six months or yearly and having to change...

Dual Purpose Milking Shorthorn Show Champions

Herd average about 14,500 M 575 F in 1997 when went cow/calf. Our family has always felt we didn't want to breed meatless wonders. Had...
