Tyson Foods Warns of Meat Shortage as Plants Close

I’m in swva but closer to Roanoke. I could use a load if I could find them at the right price. Even have a truck in Iowa now needing a load to get back.

Tyson Foods Warns of Meat Shortage as Plants Close

How does one get some of these hogs? Have any contacts you would care to share? I could use some.

    Sold cull cows last week

I’d say the cull cow plants that are open and running full speed are making a killing right now. Probably trying to push as much product through as possible.

    Backing up the Supply

I sure would like to get my hands on some cheap hogs like that.

    30% negotiated cash purchase price

So we leave it alone and continue to loose competition? Or would you rather us get behind this bill limiting feed lot capacity? Seems to me Corbitt is the only one with a reasonable proposal that has a chance of passing.

    Feeding Bulls

A few weeks ago I pulled my five bulls off fall cows and have them penned in a two acre lot. They range in age from 18 months to 3 1/2 and weigh roughly from 1200 to 2000. They have good second cut hay available. I'm feeding a mixture of corn, gluten and soyhull pellets. They came in a bit...

    Crazy bull

I had one a few years back that kept catching a tit when a calf was sucking. Kept him up in the bull lot for a year and went right back to stealing milk when I turned him back out the next year. He went into the freezer

    Global market explanation

The US has a better quality product. So some of that is exported and low quality beef is imported to fill that market.

How much lower can the cull cow market go?

I noticed that sale was advertised heavily. I thought about going, guess I'm glad I stayed home. That's some pretty dandy prices. I think I can go right up the road and get good cows at least for 40% less.

Buying short bred cattle... starting out.

There are types of cattle in your area that would be fine but would be docked heavily in our area. I'm sure there is a place for everything but around here strong Hereford traits don't do well at a sale. It's just the market.

Buying short bred cattle... starting out.

Now is the time to buy! Sky you will be wishing you had listened to me when I'm getting rich after this market comes back in a few years! I've watched a buddy who has had Herefords and it just seems even with a good black bull about 5% of his calves get docked because they look too much like a...

Buying short bred cattle... starting out.

Maybe I missed the reason to start with Herefords but I would be hard pressed to advise anyone to start that way. There are a lot of people who buy sale cattle and resale on Craigslist. I've went and looked at some and called the guy out before. Advertising they were cutting back while I could...
