    tire tank

    Anybody currently using a tire tank? Awhile back i got a brochure from our local nrcs office on watering systems. Titled "Watering systems for serious Graziers". In it they show the complete installation of a tire tank waterer. Seems like a good cheap way to water cattle.

    Pumping Watefrom a Creek

    I use a 12v bilge pump for a boat and a good 12v batt. The tank is 20' away & 3-4' uphill. It will fill a 150 gal. tank in 15 min. I use a 1" hose and recharge the batt. once a week.

    Thanks for the reply Dun. If i recall correctly from NRCS grazing class, late fall grazing of non stockpiled pastures will not give grasses and legumes sufficient time to build up needed reserves for winter.This could possibly lead to a thinner/weaker stand next season.     cut off date for fall grazing

    does anyone concern themselves with getting their cattle off of their pastures to a sacrifice area and feeding hay to give their grasses time to recover before killing frost? Iam in MO and have mostly fescue pastures and am thinking about moving cows to sac. area in the next week or so.

    Post Pounders

    If you have access to a small hi lift (we use a 450 deere) it works good.Scoop of dirt in the bucket & pound away.We use the heavy crossbar that connects the two loader arms.I usually saw a V on the end of the post if its hot and dry.

    The local Purina dealer says to use approx. 1 bag of W&R mineral per mature cow per year.
