    Steel Rope for working pens

"This would be for the perimeter of the facility only, not for crowding areas or chutes." Crowding pens and chute would be of other materials. What do ya think?

    Steel Rope for working pens

Original Poster here to answer some question that have be asked. I was thinking of having the cable go through the post at each end, then strung on the inside of the in-between posts (cow side) through I or J hooks so that the whole line could be tightened at once. I agree pipe rail on top is...

    Steel Rope for working pens

My idea was to string the cables (wire rope) at 8" intervals starting 8" above ground up to a height of 6 feet. Each strand would be under tension by using spring turnbuckles to keep it nice and tight. Does that make any difference in anyone's opinion, or still too dangerous?

    Steel Rope for working pens

I have a 40' x 80' working area that needs to be redone. It is currently portable panels wired between telephone pole posts spread 10' apart. I have a source for used, galvanized 3/4" highway median cable for a real good price. Does anyone have any advice on using or not using cable to build...

Should have leveled more before sprigging

Thanks for all the help. I'll need to get it done soon. It's too rough to get fertilizer or chicken litter spread and the soil test says I need some nitrogen.

BirdDog, what is the risk if I wait until March?

Should have leveled more before sprigging

I have 30 acres that I had cleared, root-plowed, and sprigged with Tifton in the summer of 2012. I was lucky with the rain and the sprigs took well and I have about 50% coverage now. The downside to the rain was that when the land was prepared for the sprigs, I had it disked twice but still...

i hate this tree with a passion, HONEY LOCUSTS SOLUTION

Lucky P : If you do have a pint of Agent Orange don't use it. Agent Orange was manufactured by the military during the Vietnam war to be a 50%-50% mix of 2,4-D and tryclopyr (Remedy). Unfortunately, their manufacturing process also produced a contaminant 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin...

Lots of carefully worded posts are going on here. Please post an honest story so we can all learn from it. Original poster is hiding details.

    18 Acres ?

There sure is a big difference between the original property diagram and the one you posted later. Make sure the owner is not subdividing the property. He may be selling that nice open area to the neighbor to the north, whose driveway parallels it.

    Remote Water Usage Reporting

Thanks for the ideas! I think I will go with a sprinkler timer and valve for now. I'd sure love to drill a well, but can't swing it right now. Paul

    Remote Water Usage Reporting

I like your idea, agmantoo. Thanks for the suggestion. Have you actually used one before? If so, how reliable are they? Paul

    Remote Water Usage Reporting

I am not at my ranch property on a daily basis. When I first bought the property the rural water cooperative called me to inform me that a neighbor had reported water running across the county road from my property, and by the time I got it fixed I had leaked an acre foot of water that cost me...

    RUBBER TUBE AND CONTACT CEMENT

It was maybe a year and a half ago, and it was a 300? gallon black one.

    RUBBER TUBE AND CONTACT CEMENT

If it is a Rubbermaid brand tub, then it has a lifetime guarantee. When mine sprung a leak, I just took it back to Tractor Supply and they gave me a new one (I had the receipt in my tax records). I got no argument from anyone at TSC.
