Do you know if the CV axles of the UForce are interchangeable front and rear, mine make some horrible noises in the rear but still drive it. I thought I might try swapping the front for the rear.
I do love my Mule though, it is so basic and manaeverable and gets thjrough so many tight spots.

A friend of mine finally got a u-force. He had it on the burns this year. I like. It's basically a Ranger but thousands of dollars cheaper. I have read a lot of the parts are interchangeable.
I understand that they share many parts of their design with both Polaris and CanAm. My experience to this point indicates that they may be better built.
I know that the 1000 has different axles front to rear. I can’t speak for the 600’s.
I thought I better take a picture of it because it will never look like this again.
The old side by side is under the knife. At 18,000 km's the rear diff pinion bearings gave up. Perhaps if I had ever changed that oil it may have made it a little longer.

Is that a proper differential or just a crown wheel and pinion so essentially the diff is locked. My UForce 800 doesn't have a proper diff in the rear and with aggressive tires they really fight each other when turning putting a lot of strain on the CV joints and drive train.

Even I know how to change the oil in all our Polaris'. Religiously. Duly noted with the date, initials and any other miscellaneous information in the manual - you know, that page provided for maintenance info.

You change your differential oil out or just engine? That reminds me I should change out the diff oil on ours we got 6 months ago. It should be pretty well broken in now. Just the engine oil. As a general rule, we only keep them 2 years before we trade them in and don't worry about the differential. That said, we kept one of our "old" ones at the barn for the kid(s) that occasionally work for us and since it was previously mine (thus, more hours), should probably change the differential. Thanks for the reminder! Side note: my best friend hasn't changed the oil in her Polaris for dang near 5 years. It's beat to shyt but still running.

After 5 years it would probably be bad for it to change the oil.
I’m pretty sure it’s just crown and pinion, but I haven’t opened it up to confirm. I can tell the bearings on the pinion are shot, I expect there will be more damage that though. I think I’ll just take it to the dealer and see what they can do. I’m not interested in shimming and setting backlash.

Curious what kind of bearings they use?
I rebuilt the diff in one of my ATVs last winter and it just used ball bearings unlike automotive/equipment that uses tapered roller bearings. The ball bearings are cheaper and easy to setup but not nearly as durable.

According to the parts diagram it looks like regular bearings, no tapered brearings.

Figured as much. The thrust of the ring and pinion pushing outward all the time has got to be hard on the ball bearings, they really aren't designed for that kind of load, which I'm sure is what killed mine. The carrier bearings had so much side to side play it was crazy, I've seen 500k mi pickups with less wear.
Taking a quick internet search it appears that how all UTV / ATV diffs are built. Probably because the manufacturers know that the vast majority of their products will never see 10,000 miles or anywhere near it.
