God bless all that have brown swiss for family cows.... Been there, done that, no more for me. They just don't pencil out for the return for me, and the calves are heavily discounted here and we are in some "dairy" country.... the steers take too long to grow size/frame before filling out, the buyers do not want them, the big steers that reach finish size are often too big and do not hang well due to size....kill plants do not want them...... have talked to many buyers here about them over the years. Most farmers use sexed semen on them to mostly only get females so they do not take a beating on the bull calves or steers.
I do not have the temperament for their stubborn ways. They eat alot more than a jersey or guernsey and the butterfat is about the same.... 4-5% averages. Milk production is not much more than a jersey either. I have had a dozen or more, and some swiss/hol crosses... besides the jerseys, guernseys, jer/hol and jer/guernsey crosses. I have 2 farmers that have them, show them, and I give them credit ..... both of them dislike jerseys too..... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
