    A Legend Has Passed

It is with heavy heart that I share the news that Ray Hunt has passed away. He died on Thursday, March 12, 2009. What Hunt, along with Bill and Tom Dorrance brought to horsemanship is legendary. We can only be thankful and honored his teachings will live on.

Feeding Beef Cattle only on lawn grass clippings

I agree with hayray on this one. I think you're going to need a lot more supplements and protein than the clippings will provide. If you rely on the grass clippings alone, you'll never get to the weight you're looking for and you'll have to be really careful about what's in them. I applaud...

Building a herd in 1 day.

This is the underlying mistake that you are making. If you plan first, it's a lot less work and loss. Good luck to you and your animals. It was my mistake in thinking you were actually looking for help or answers. On a side note for anyone interested about the mountain lion issue, there's a...

    High Speed Internet

We had been staying in my dad's guest house in Dallas while we were in the process of buying our ranch, so I got so used to DSL. Once we moved in, I figured I could live with dial-up again, just to save a little money (DSL/Broadband) isn't available here. Nope. I literally was in tears one...

Building a herd in 1 day.

You don't have to agree with our management, that's okay. But, if you were to break down the numbers that you posted from your neighbor there, the ratio would be 1:21 essentially. So, perhaps there is some knowledge behind this. And apparently you leave your bull in year-round and calves are...

    EEEWWUUU!!!

It's like that face lotion that has bull semen in it. I'm pretty sure I can handle a few lines as opposed to that! Gross. (I say that now, with very few wrinkles. I may change my position after summer has once again turned my skin to leather.)

Building a herd in 1 day.

Sorry - I missed this part....you "buy bred cows every year and then sell everything off"? A.) Why? B.) What do you need bulls for? C.) WHY? That, my friend, is building a herd in a day. You have got to be bleeding money. Sounds like a train wreck.

Building a herd in 1 day.

I'm going to take a stab at a response, it's a little tough to piece together the information. First, let me just repeat this a few times: foundation, foundation, foundation. Your end result is a direct correlation to your starting point. I'd say there's a problem with your cow/bull ratio...

    Michael Phelps smoking pot?

Aren't we all? But, I prefer my cocktails without cocaine, which is what I was referring to.

    Writing Another Book

I'm a screenwriter, so believe me, I understand the ridiculous amount of work that would take. There's a site called Blurb - http://www.blurb.com and you can do all kinds of publishing and different formats. I did ones for our wedding and they turned out spectacular. I'm not sure of the...

Good luck! Do you have a publisher?

    Liquid Feed

I'm interested in hearing the responses to this. We've been using cake instead of the tubs - seems to provide a more even distribution.

    Loans

Check with your local FSA - they have some great programs, especially for beginners. The catch is that you must have the experience to back it up. If I remember correctly, it's something like 3-5 years in a management position. Also, there is a wealth of knowledge out there. Google "land...

Did we skip the Bush college years in this objectivity?

    Lost first one

Sorry to hear that. We lost one during that ice-storm. Couple of days old and got into the pond. We found her dead the next morning.
