    Listless 9 month ole calf

No, I didn't the Vets around here are not to interested in working with large animals, they show that by saying "That will be quite-a-bit of Money" but that's up to you!!! It would've been a benefit tho! That was my first time since I have had cattle that I've seen that with a calf of her age...

    Listless 9 month ole calf

Suppose your right, what can be done if anything? The vet hasn't been out to see this heifer yet, maybe it's time! I was hoping that we could get thru this without a vet visit, not-to-be!! Thanks

    Listless 9 month ole calf

Odd you should ask. It looks more like a deer's stool, I dismissed it as to her not eating very much, but?

    Listless 9 month ole calf

Mild 103 degrees. This calf looks like it may be bloated on both sides at times. Otherwise it looks fine. This is a calf that I've save back from last years crop for replacements. All my cows I 've raised from holding back so I 'm very familar with these animals. They have excellent mangement.

    Listless 9 month ole calf

Calf eats very little grain (2-3 lbs ever 2 days) eats no hay, drinks water. This calf just doesn't seem to be right, it looks OK but just doesn't have any get-up! This heifer has been this way for about 4 - 5 weeks. During this time I've give the Vet. these symptoms, and she gave me ( baytril...

    REDISH/BROWN DIARRHEA

I have 6 hefiers I'm keeping for replacements, they are 10 - 11 months old. At six months old I gave them their vacs. Triangle 9 + type II , wormed. One of them has started to pass this off colored manure, looks a little bloody. What would be a good guess and a treatment? Not ready to go to...

    Spraying for weeds?

Would it be alright to spray my sweet corn with 2-4-d to kill the weeds?? I know you can use it on field corn.

shed water after hay is baled

Does anyone know of a chemical that you could spray on the top of your round bales that you have put in a line that would shed some of the rain water? I know it would have to be food grade for animals. It wouldn't be a cure-all but would help a little. Just a thought! I only bale around 250...

To get out or stay in??

I've own cattle for about 20 years, I consider myself well informed and very intense on my mangement style. I know that this is a subjective statement, so lets agree that, I know the basics and follow them to the letter. Since 2002 my cattle numbers have averaged around 14 head ( brood cows )...

Castration - At birth verus 4-5 month of age

I used to band at 4-5 days old but didn't like having to mess with catching and watching the old cow! So, now I band at 5 -6 months old just to be able to use my shute, I've had good luck so far!! I also wean them, give shots and hold them for 45 days and then sell em. I don't worry about...

    Vac. of herd bull?

My shute has a clearence of about 26" the bull is to large to fit thru the extension to my shute, he is reluctant to enter and if he does then it is difficult to get him out. Thats what made me wonder if it was necessary to give him a shot?

    Vac. of herd bull?

Should you give your herd bull an annual vac. like the ones you give to your cows? I use triangle 9 type 2.

    Baling Twine

Does anyone know of a problem with cattle eating sisal baling twine? I would like to use it and not take the string off of the bales. I guess that if it doesn't lay long enough it will get in the beaters on my spreader when I clean up.

    Heifer to butcher?

I have this 3 year old heifer, she breeds but won't stick. I was thinking of putting her on feed for about six weeks-or-so and using her for a butcher beef for myself. Do you think that she would make a good eating beef?? She is angus. She weighs 1250 lbs.
