    Buyer fee

There is a direct correlation between ability to utilize all available resources and scale. Nothing wrong with it, but inability or decision not to use other resources limits scalability. Can be happy either way, I guess.

List of Schools for Cattle Ranching?

I'll second this. It's in August each year and events spread over three days. I attended as we were getting started and found it invaluable. In addition to the sessions you choose to attend over the period, you receive a copy of all the presentations and handouts from the whole event. It was...

    Oklahoma winter feeding plans

In NE OK, it does vary greatly year to year. However, we average just under 3 5x6 bales per head typically having hay out late Nov - early Mar. Plan for another bale per head or so and hope to have hay in the barns when spring comes. Last winter, two full barns.

    kabota rtv 1140

We have an 1140 and the hydrostatic transmission can be a bit touchy. Turning the steering wheel both directions full and/or pulling out the little knob on the dash (as indicated on the placards) do the trick though.

    Reclaimed mine land

I just read an article in Beef Magazine today about Young Cattle Company of Belmont, OH that had a very good discussion of how they have nurtured over 2,500 acres of reclaimed land for their operations...

    Weaning Recommendation

We're in the sell them straight off the mama camp. No advantage seen and right now we have multiple barns and direct buyers all very interested in the calves we'll pull off in the next couple of weeks.

    *Sigh*

Aaron is in Canada. They have OTC stuff we can't get here.

    new holland td 5050

Depends what you're mission is. I have a 2011 model - FWD. Had served every purpose we used it for - moving hay of all round bale sizes, front and back, pulling spike aerator, drilling pastures, 15 foot brushhog, general loading and dumping, and cutting and raking hay. We just met it's limit...

Looking for some guidance. Best way to get started?

When I said get a job on a nearby ranch, I didn't necessarily mean a big ten plus thousand acre operation out west, in Texas, or the upper plains. I meant a good sized operation near where you live. Now that you've said you're west of Fayetteville, I can assure you around Siloam and across...

Looking for some guidance. Best way to get started?

Not trying to be a pain, but why is the "squeaker" expected to provide help? Based on the rest of the text, I assume you want this person to give you a cheaper than market bearing price on land and maybe more? Have you considered working for a larger ranch in your area? I could easily see a...

    Wagyu Ribeyes

Killen's is the real deal. For those of you around Houston, it's worth the effort if you get a chance - though it is $$$$

Best outlet for buying good cows?

Good relationships and getting the word out, as everyone else said. Here's my story: I've put together a herd of about 225 cows in the past 2 years and started with 48 I found 30 minutes away on Cattlerange. Same rancher called me direct about 6 months later and we picked up 50 more from him...

    Another drought?

In the far NE corner of OK it's burned up and on a ranch by ranch basis the grasshoppers have hatched in epic numbers (we're starting our 3rd round of spraying right now - it kills them, but they get replaced by new ones). We luckily picked up some additional pastures to add to the rotation...

Recommendation for a good Head Gate

Exactly what I'm doing right now. Bought the headgate and like it a ton, but realized that we need the whole setup long-term. Have the chute and palpation cage ordered now.
