    I/ve been posting on the calving thread but maybe I need to be here....have a sick calf...have had to tube for 2 days to feed, gave colostrum and a bag of electrolytes for the scours, temp was low...used blankets and heat lamp to get it back up. Went out a few minutes ago to check on it...

    Baby calf was up this morning, actually looked a little better, still won't suck, doesn't seem to have the will or power. Temp this morning was 99. Vet is gone for the long holiday weekend so that is not an option. I am warming him with warmed blankets....sure hoping we don't have to come in...

    We are actually in the market for a couple of friends for him right now. But until then, he bonds with the dog. They lay side by side with a fence between them. It's pretty funny, the dog is about as big as the calf.

    I have 3 Buff Orph girls (had 5 til the puppies found out they don't fly well) and 9 Rhode Island Reds....My RIR are too young to lay yet but should be starting in a month or so. My big girls give me 3 eggs a day most days....I love my chickens! :lol:
