    Hay

I had 8 on 30 acres last winter and fed 5 bales. They looked good coming out of it. It's good grass, though.

    TWINS Is this possible?

We had twins this year. I didn't discover the second one until a week later, but I'm pretty sure that the momma just had one hidden better than the other. She's done well with both and seems to be keeping her condition pretty well.

Just an update - the cow I was worried wasn't pregnant calved today (or last night). Still never developed much of a bag. It's the worst week of the year for it. Mid 90s here. When I found her this AM, I thought the calf might not make it. Tiny calf and it looked like it was struggling...

New to Cattle and need help!

I inherited land and knew nothing (not nearly 800 acres) but even if I would have extrapolated it out, I can't see how I could have made it just diving in. I'm older that you, have kids it college, etc., but I can't see how I could have made it work. The blessing is that if your parents are...

NE cowboy. Calve this late because of when I could rent the bull. I bought one this year and hope they breed back quick, so we can move it up a bit. It's really too hot here to calve this late, but so far this year we've gotten away with it. Dogs and cows - middle of the state. Near Asheboro.

Nice surprise today. Our fifth calf of six was born yesterday. We were looking for him when I thought I saw him stealing milk from one of the other cows. I thought this was weird, since there shouldn't have been any need for him to steal and the momma is a good one. Then my wife and I...

Two of the four newest additions - first one born 6/6. 2nd born 6/12. I think I'll keep the first girl. I really like her mom's disposition. The latest one was born Thursday, but his momma is doing a great job of keeping him hid. I've only gotten a really good look at him once, and...

    AHA

Interesting to read all of this as someone who has no dog in the fight and no knowledge. What's interesting to me is how it seems that some things are the same regardless of industries. My experience is that industry associations have a tendency toward in-fighting and also, frankly, toward...

    Texas folks

Thanks for all the advice on here. Having a real good time. 'Course when I asked the 9 year old what he liked best so far, it was the hotel pool.

    Wow!

My daughter is getting a degree in Sustainable Agriculture. She wants to be a missionary. She has a great heart and figures she will help folks in a practical way. But.... I asked her to plant a my raised beds when she got home from college. She put about 12 tomato plants and some peppers...

Do I dare even ask about the best place to eat BBQ near Waco?

I'd imagine the 9 year old would lobby for the Dr. Pepper museum!

    Texas folks

This board is crowded with folks from Texas, so thought I'd ask a question. Tomorrow I'm taking my two sons - ages 23 and 9 to Texas on a guys trip. I just searched around for cheap flights and Dallas wound up being the place. My oldest wants to wind up in San Antonio for a day or so to do...

Spring vs fall calving and why???

I've heard some old timers say that most of nature has their young in the spring and that you should imitate that. But I have a question. What if you've screwed up? Mine this year will be born at a bad time (June-August). Mostly due to ignorance and timing of when I could rent a bull. I'm...

    PREG CHECK YOUR COWS!!!!!

I just had the vet come check mine. We'd never done it before either. She didn't charge a whole lot, we know immediately, and I had one open. Gives me the chance to send her to the sale and get a replacement.
