    Depth of Rib?

Depth of rib is overrated at this point in time. Ask your dad or grandpa if they worried about it as much as we do. They didn't. It only became such a hot topic after the pencil guts didn't work. Now, we select for too much depth and guts for no real purpose. Some of these cattle are more...

Opinions on balance or Low BW

    Angus - Most influencial Families

Many folks don't transfer bulls, so where are all the females going? If they work so well, why aren't the breeders keeping them for themselves. This bubble will pop! mtnman

    SS objective calves

No wonder some folks get bad advice. The bull is in the top 1% of the Angus breed by a wide margin for WW and YW, and we are told they don't grow enough? So what if he is small framed? He's not, BTW. If his growth is high and based on his progeny, then his own size doesn't matter...

    Putting Down CAB?

Don't bet on it AiT. Even the CAB reports show that the premiums were so low as to be non-existant for the first 20 years. Producers give up heterosis to straightbreed, and there is no way that a $2.50 premium captured on only 10% (steers fed = cut the CAB acceptance rate by 1/2) of the calf...

    Putting Down CAB?

Well over 30 years? Wrong! I do not know of a single company that was kept in business for so long as CAB w/o showing real, rather than paper profit. While everyone was talking about big premiums with CAB, the average premium was only about $2.50 per head for the first 20 years of the...

    Herefords - from Drovers

Well, at least this is more scientific than the load of BS in the last Angus Journal, the "10 reasons" article. What a load of bunk! mtnman

Gelbviehs, Balancers & starting new herd

Stay away from Gelbvieh with "Freedom" in the pedigree. They will sap the marbling right out of them! He's purty to look at, but he will prove to be the bull that was the death knell for the breed unless the breeders do a quick about-face. mtnman

Guess the Breeds in This Guy.

I think you should count the days from breeding to calving. Let us know how many days it was, please. mtnman

Guess the Breeds in This Guy.

The clean-up bull is the one that breeds the cows that didn't get bred by AI. What breed was your clean-up bull? Did you count the days from the time you bred the cow until she calved? How many days was it? mtnman

    Feltons 517

I cannot believe that at this late time in the years of dealing with Matt, that there are still suckers that think he actually has something to contribute to the beef industry. Wise up some of you! Don't you understand that others are losing respect for you because you agree with Matt? mtnman

Guess the Breeds in This Guy.

What breed was the clean-up bull? Who was the RA bull? Thanks. mtnman

    Does anyone know?

"Best" is a relative term. The purebred folks I do business with avoid them like the plague. mtnman

    Does anyone know?

Just because he has a registration paper doesn't mean he is pure. And the reverse is true also, just because someone says an animal is unpure doesn't make it true, either. Let's just say I saw some convincing evidence on the bull. Maybe there was a reason both he and his sire were tested...

Lovana! A blast from the past! One of the great 3-breed composites to slip through the AAA doors. mtnman
