    beefmaster

We have run only purebred, registered beefmasters since 2003... We have had a total of 1 prolapse to date... and we culled her instantly.

lost 3 cows in 10 days HELP

By any chance are the dead ones in the 2 year old to 4 year old age group? And any chance that you have had a swing in temperature lately? Hot to cooler or vice-versa? Quick pneumonia also comes to mind... sometimes you can hear raspy breathing (snotty nose). Normally weather "stress"...

    backwards births

That IS a bummer... especially when it's one of the easiest pulls ever... ...but you only have a minute or 2 to catch them in time once the placenta seperates from the calf to get them out and over those hips. Sorry for your loss... we had a surprise loss of 2 twins toggled up this morning...

    Exciting morning

  -- yep, yep... Flying from Montana into Denver - same thing EXCEPT a plane went on the cross runway underneath us, we were likely 100 feet apart when we were immediately over the top of them... some smart arse in the back of the plane hummed the Twilight Zone music and said...

    Pinkeye treatment?

The high grass likely helped irritate the eye in the first place... if she's tame, plop her favorite treat down (grass from the other side of the fence or some nice hay) into a corner of a gate let her walk-in, squeeze her closed in the gate with a pipe behind her arse to keep her from backing...

Dumb question I guess. Can I use burdizzos on a tomcat?

Feral cats caught in a live trap is about $12 to get fixed (male), $14 for females... and the vet notches the ear Feral cat tamed down and brought into the vet in a nice carrier = $80 at the vet and no notched ear Vet also gives them the feline rabies shot and something else as part of the...

    3 Premature dead calves

BVD IBR Trauma -- heat stress, head butt by another cow Foothill abortion = CA, OR, NV thing if your cows have never been exposed to the Sierra foothills and got bit by an infected tick Infectious plant eaten? Infection in the herd == as said above, Neospora, etc etc In the Merck Vet...

    Another guess the tool

It allows you to hold the PTO and turn it to the proper angle while still sitting on the tractor to connect to whatever implement you want... saving pinched fingers and the on/off tractor time? So I guess we would call it a PTO hooker upper thinga-ma-bob?

Need Help: Joint Ill or Something Else

 -- if you've invested this much time and energy into the little bugger, you might as well give him some probiotics for a few bucks out of the tube... his stomach is most assuredly out of balance Give him a squirt of that and some patience to see if he has the drive in him to make it...

    Calf not nursing

The bottle teat CAN feel very different to a calf, as well as they know the difference between the real thing and that from a mix. If the calf was a dumb sucker and never actually nursed she COULD have dried up in that time before the little bugger figured it out. Should this ever happen...

    Wife Tantrum

Good grief... I would say that a little more than just a temper tantrum and more like detox jitters applies in this case... horribly pathetic. I'd take her to the lake... "throw that one back"

    Tomato issue

Can also appear from over watering with a simple correction of ensuring it is dry as a bone at least 1 to 1 1/2 inches down before you water again.

    Calves lsoing hair...

Maybe mites... and they are rubbing on trees, barb wire, etc. to scratch? Typically a fever, they will lose hair around their ears.

    Branding

As has been said: 1. Check with your state laws 2. If you are going to register your cattle - check with your breed association (Beefmasters is hot brand only) 3. Humane: the top layer of cells are killed instantly in either case and then holding the iron there ensures the permanent mark is...
