Stirring the pot on the LH/corriente topic

I don't care enough about anyone's peeing contest to read all 6 pages of this mess, but I think Longhorns are like every breed out there. There are good and bad ones. If they work for your operation, great. If they don't, ok. I was able to get started with my own cows because of a couple cheap...

    BELTIE!

I bred mine to a Saler and Charolais with no issues, but I know that's not necessarily going to be everyone's experience.

How they mark bred cows differs

Our local sale barn is Cattleman's Livestock exchange in Charlotte, Arkansas. They started using colored ear tags for Open, 1st, 2nd, 3rd period bred. Then they write the number of the age on the tag: 1-7, SS, O.

    County extension

We have an Ag agent and a FACS (Family and Consumer Science) agent in my county. They are both very involved. The Ag agent is a resource for farmers and ranchers. She has worked in so many different areas of agriculture that she is able to help with livestock, pasture management, and crops. She...

I thought it wasn't advised to use implants on heifers because of the impact on fertility.

    The airing of the grievances

I've worked with some kids in group homes, foster care, and sad/bad home environments, and it seems that they do lie to overcompensate more than your average teenager. It's a defense mechanism to try to convince themselves that life isn't as bad as they know it is.

    BELTIE!

I had a Belted Galloway cow for a couple years. She threw thick calves, but her attitude was horrible. She was high headed and could get snorty in the catch pen. Bred to a Saler bull, she had a solid black calf. Bred to a Charolais, she had a grey belted calf. Bred to a Santa Gertrudis bull...

    Show me your herd bull

I agree. He definitely has his faults, but he has done a good job with my commercial, cross-bred mix of cows: (Charolais X, Jersey, and Longhorn crosses). I have a friend using him right now on her group of Charolais cross cows.

    Red Angus Question

Yep! That is the kind of tag he has in his ear. Thank you!

    Red Angus Question

I have a full-blood (supposedly registered) Red Angus bull. He has a tag in his ear with a number and "Red Angus" printed on it. Does anyone with registered Red Angus that might know more about what the tag number might mean? Thanks.
