    head gate

The "cow crippler" or "castration device" is actully a device for holding the head of a critter when doing things like dehorning. A rope goes from the shaft on the "winch", around behind the head and back down to the shaft. Then crank it down ti immobilize the head and do what you need to do...

    John Deere 4020

I bought a "blank" bucket (An Allied brand with no mounts on it), made my own mounts to fit my Massey loader and welded them on. Much cheaper than buying a Massey branded bucket.

    project training

Our 4-H club is having a project day for the members. We have several members new to the beef project and I would like to have an activity for them to work on during the session. Figured I'd have an outline of a show steer with some of the body parts highlighted and then they could try and ID...

    Massey Ferguson - Simpson?

Are you sure it's Simpson? I believe Agco is using Sisu engines (which are made in India) in alot if not all thier tractors, no matter what the nameplate on it is. They have been using them for a few years now. Haven't heard anything bad about them yet. I agree though, losing the Perkins...

Did Art's Way buyout OWATONNA MFG?

I THINK Gehl bought them out. I know that you could get a roller type round baler from Owatonna and then later you could get the same baler w/ a Gehl paint job. I don't think Gehl kept with mixers & such though as they already had their own.

Yellow and Red Covered Tanks - Winter water

2 things you might want to try. 1. An old "flat top" bulk milk tank might work. ( the kind with covers on top). They're insulated and usualy don't freeze up but that only works if you're adding water each day. 2. Other option is a propane powered tank heater. I've seen them advertised on...

    feeding pigs

I know this is a cattle board but I'm hoping someone can give me a little info on feeding out hogs. After my first experiance with fresh pork I've decided to raise a few to provide fresh pork again next year along with selling a few to offset the cost of mine. Before I jump into this I want to...

    Baling corn stocks?

Make sure thy're good and dry before baling, otherwise you'll wind up with moldy bales. I cut stalks 1 year w/a moco and waited about a week where we happened to have perfect drying weather. Apparently it wasn't drying enough though as I had moldy bales. If you have a soft core baler it would be...

    4x4 Vehicles

A friend once told me that a 2 wheel drive truck is nothing more than a car with a box instead of a trunk.

    After 35 Years

You did better than I/dad did. I have a 275 Massey and had to replace the pump after about 20 years. ( Dad owned her then). As to fuel savings it just can't be beat. Can hay all day on 3/4 tank of fuel. Multi power is giving me grief rite now but the repair can wait untill it's time for a...

    wheat

Anybody sub wheat for corn in a finishing ration? Looking at maybe trying it if the dollars and cents end of it work. Thanks

    Frost seeding

I want to boost my pastures a bit would like to do some frost seeding this winter. What legumes could I frost seed in with decent results? Is there any grasses that may be frost seeded? I know it's a long shot on grasses but if there's anything that would work I'd give it a try. I know when you...

    MF 240 or Kubota L4330???

While I have no personal experiance with a 240MF I can tell you that if it's anything like the 275MF that I have you'll like this tractor-alot! dad bought new in the late 80s and it's been a solid reliable tractor. 2wd & it has a MF quick tach loader. Handled many round bales with no issues...

    biosolids

City of Milwaukee markets their biosolids in bagged form under the brand name of Milorganite. Use it on my pastures with great results.(my pastures are small as I only have 6 cows) But it's nice and easy to handle. Put it on with a spinner spreader pulled by my UTV.

    feed question

Exploring the options for finishing fair steers. Don't want the kids to commit to a project that has no potential for profit. Currently feeding whole corn, Nutreena 41% beef pellets(1-1/2 lbs/day) and grassy hay. This years steers leave in a couple weeks so I'm not worried about them but next...
