I just see that calf as far too terminal in his make-up. There's a lot I really like about him, his length, bone, heavy muscle and masculinity, not to mention a knock out dam. But for me, he's a bit to round in his hip (and thus a touch straight in his hocks) and the lack of depth of fore rib is an absolute no-go. I have learned the very expensive and hard way that you simply cannot feed that capacious rib into one, be it cow, bull or steer. The fact is, he would not make my prospect pen here, but to each his own.
I do find it interesting that most of your cows, especially older generations, have very desirable depth and spring of rib. I suspect the recent calf crops you have posted have been the result of a bull with a similar tubular shape???
