This is a 14 month old SimAngus heifer that didn’t get weaned in time. The calf is a Hereford bull. I realized a little while ago that she looked like she was close to calving and pulled her and another cow out and put them in a lot where could get them out easier if needed. She had this little bull calf last night unassisted. She seems pretty protective of him.




 
Nice looking calf. I’m glad that turned out ok for you instead of being a wreck. Looks like she’s got a nice little bag and has took right up with the calf.
 
Good lookin pair. Had one calve at 13 months last year. Was going to sell her but kept her and she’s due any day now.. Seens like it’ll work out.

We used to buy several heifers around 500 lbs and usually end up with one or two of them being bred and then ever now an then one of ours will get bred young too. I’ve found most times it has turned out ok but have lost a couple of the calves so it can go either way.

The heifers mother did the same several years ago I bought her as a 500 pound heifer and she happened to be bred at that time. I should have kept every heifer she’s had. I
 
I have one I bought 2 summers ago. Cow and calf together weighed 690. The calf must have been close to 200 of that. In the fall sold the calf weighing 605. She raised a decent calf last year and should calve in the next couple weeks. Very profitable.
