Don't think you would have been bidding at these prices. 1316 head in the sale.
Took 8 fall yearlings (6 steers, 2 heifers) and 3 cows.
4 of the steers came in the ring and bell ringer went off for the scale. Buddy says I'm doing pretty good, cattle are ringing the bell and they haven't even sold yet! Averaged $1681 ($1348 US) for the steers and got over $2 on them weighing 816-920 lbs. About the top grossing yearlings in the sale, had 3 order buyers fighting over them. One fancy package of Simmental/RA steer calves did beat me though in gross dollars.
These are the Simms, there were 19 in the pen. They weighed 746 lbs and went for $2.28 or $1700 ($1363 US)
Chars, 15 steers in the pen, 750 lbs and $2.20 or $1650 ($1323 US)
Lots of high 5 and 6 weight steer calves in the $1400-$1500 ($1122-1203 US) range. Happy, happy, happy ranchers. Poorest small calves in the 4 weights were $800-900 (640-720 US).
I checked fat prices for buddy on my cell and top fat steers are worth about $1900-2000 ($1523-1604 US) through the ring right now in the country. So not much margin left on any of the cattle sold here and they still have to travel 1000 miles in either direction to a feedlot/plant. Auctioneer said we beat all the auction marts in the country for price yet again!
