YELLOW MILK

Just had a heifer calve and her calf would not nurse so i put her n the chute and milked her.her milk is pee yellow and thick.it dont stink and its not mastitus.its not colostrum either.the calf hates the taste of it so we r bottle feeding him. we did get him some colostrum replacement the day he was born,monday.he taked the bottle well but what is wrong with the cows milk?

I saw a post on this forum that said that the milk from a teat where a cow has had mastitis before will end up like. hmmmm? what was the word? cladder or something like that. I googled it at the time and it means a thick milk that used to be used as food for humans.

Found it. The word used was clabber.

From a cow that has had mastitis in the past but not now.

she has never had mastitus before.this is her first calf.

Heifers can have mastitis pre-calving, either showing up as a blind quarter when they calve or still with gunk in it.

What makes you think this one isn't mastitis? If it's yellow and thick like custard (not thick like colostrum) I'd call it mastitis and probably stick some antibiotic up the teat as there may still be a chance of saving it. Are all four quarters the same?
Sometimes mastitis and colostrum look pretty similar - by stripping some into a dark cup you can easily see if there's any graininess, clotting or watery fluid. Flecks of blood and little hard white bits are usually nothing to worry about (though unusual in heifers) as they clear up in a day or three.

yes its mastitis.it can be an is yellow alot of times.an it doesnt always come out in clumps.milk the teat all the way out twice a day.an treat with mastitis meds.an keep milking it out twice a day for 3 days.an treat again the 2nd day.she should clear up after 4 days.
