You see where all the hair is comin' off of that heifer's back, rump and ribs? I don't care what your uncle has for space friend, these animals need some attention. TLC - ASAP.
 
Actually the heifer pics are from our place. And as u can see by how fat she is- she has been babied too much as is.

The only way to keep tag off of cattle is to keep them out on pasture all winter my friend. And in this part of minnesota that is not an option. Deep snow all winter and all mud in the spring. I dont think i can afford to cement and straw a square mile of land to attemt to keep tag off of my cattle. And as u know cattle are not the smartest as they routinely take a crap and lay in it, lol.

Not completely true. Mine are kept in small pens w/sheds all winter and never look like that. I don't think she's overly fat either - just carrying a big hay gut.

This one has more of a Simmental head than an angus head.

Has she been itching herself alot on her sides, rear and back ?

Just wondering what would cause those balding spots.

Rain rot, lice etc. All fixable.

I didn't see those bare spots on the Simmental heifer in the previous posting.

Ok, you 've shown us the black ones, now show us some RED ones. :D

I would have to disagree with this statement. Our cows have been in drylot all winter and have never lost hair like this heifer has.

And as u know cattle are not the smartest as they routinely take a crap and lay in it, lol.

Cattle are as 'smart' as they are allowed to be. They will find the cleanest space available to lay in.

Well we have been raising simmentals for years- and none of them have a head like her, lol.

the bald spots on the belly are probably from tag falling off and i suppose they do have a little lice. The pour-on from last fall to control lice and worms is probably wearing off by now. Whatever the case- they arent having any trouble putting weight on or making us money.

almost zero since we quit milking cows. it used to spread from the holstein calves to the beef it seemed.

We do have some trouble with it in the summer when we buy the holstein baby calves. I don't think they always get their colostrum on time- therefor more health problems.
