I'm with Scotty on this one. No deal with having a few animals with some RW. You can always treat them no problem.

i'm a little bit confused about this poll. i'm not pro-ringworm or anything but i dont think having a few calves with it is the end of the world either. it just never has beeen a big deal.

I agree with Beefy, I would prefer that my cattle not have it, but it's not a big deal. It's one of the easiest problems to take care of.

This may sound dumb, but does ringworm actually have any effect other than appearance? Ive treated it many times on small animals, and never knew if it will actually harm them.

Never seen cows with it here. Had cows since the 50's too. I do read about it each year from across the country on farm sites.

Normally, RW is like a childhood disease, once they get it, they should never have it again.
We haven't had any for years, than this summer I noticed my bred yearlings were getting it (they had never had it) so I know it would be showing up in our calves. Yup, went thru the majority of them, some still have it. We never treat it, except on the showstring - can't show with it - banned at shows.
We purchased an old brush hog mower from a dairy, so we figure we brought it home on the mower.
Cows can get it, if they never have had it.

we have it alot up here i would always have a little of it because it saves you from one huge outbreak plus i hope they get it eaarly when there calves becasue they wont let you show if they have it

Slip by my house sometime, I'll give you some to take home with you. :) Bought a group of cows from a feller a few years back, for two years after that I had a butt-load of it, past year or so haven't had hardly any.

We'd never had ring worm until we started buying purebreds. Then we got it. Bought a heifer calf this year and she came with it too. She's passed it to our heifers and a couple of cows. Not really a big deal since they don't leave the place. Grosses out visitors though. :lol:
