The result was 4500 acres burned over 40 homes burned over 20 out buildings burned, over 700 aces of pine trees in Buescher State Park destroyed. Today over 20 home owners have filed a lawsuit asking for over a million dollars. Probably will be more to follow suit. The County did have a burn band in effect, but no restrictions against operating farm machinery. They are asking for a jury trial. I wonder how many landowners would have enough insurance if this would happen to them.

I dont see how the farmer can be held accountable for such and accident but a million bucks wont go far for 20 people after lawyers fees and such. And to answer your question I dont have any farm insurance so I'd be in trouble.

Can't see this going anywhere. Sorry folks lost their home but no need to try to get me or someone else to buy them a new one.

Had a fire out here about 10 years ago. Only burned about 150 acres but was caused by a guy driving down the road pulling his smoker with the fire box still full of coals.

A rotocycle Is a weed or brush cutter, I have noticed in other states people call them bush hogs. Bush Hog is a company that manufactures rotocycles, their are many manufactures of rotocycles.
I guess it is like some people call all dozers Cat, even thought their is many dozer manufactures.

Rotocycles have (had--haven't seen one in a long time) the 2 wheels on the side and a crank on the back to set the height.
Bushogs are mostly 3pt and have a tailwheel.

My father built one to shred cornstalks--built with the rearend out of an old Nash I believe. It turned scary fast--sounded like a jet when you it up to rpm.

NO!!! My brush hog is a '54 model made by Servis. The deck on a brush hog is pretty high above the blade such that it doesn't get choked down. Looks a lot like the rotocycles pictured. My shredders have around 6 inches of deck above the blade. Put them in any kind of brush and they'd choke down in a hurry. Brush hog just chews right threw everything. I would not put my shredders in brush. There is a HUGE difference between a shredder and a brush hog.

Heck shredder blades wouldn't hold up in brush. Brush hog blades are much more heavy duty.

No I wouldn't have enough insurance. I.just watched this on the news and I sure hope this gets slapped down quick. It's going to set a precedent.

Tell it to 95% of the owners who use the words interchangeably and notice too that the word I used was "Bush" hog not Brush Hog. I"m sure you're the exception !!!!! That being said a "shredder" manufactured by "Bush Hog" and others will also shred brush up to and inch or so in diameter. I've done it and had not "chokes". ;-)

1"? Whoo Hooo! That's really stickin a fat hog in the butt ain't it? I cut cut 1" with the garden tractor.

If a tractor can run over it, the bush hog should cut it, and even a 40 hp tractor or old 9n can run over 3" stuff and bend them down so the bush hog can chew 'em up.
Don't try it with a shredder.
You can call it anything you want if you don't care about it being correct and enjoy appearing ignorant.
You won't bring your 'shredder' into the E Tex bottoms and drive out with it in one piece.

I call it BUSH hog too. Everybody I know does. I have gone to two inches on pines and privets with our four foot bush hog behind the 135 massey. It dont chew it up but will cut it down.

I doubt anybody would carry that big of an excess liability policy. I don't see a suit sticking though.

No shredders here in MO. Bush and Brush are used interchangably. Rotary cutter is the proper name I see around here in advertising and such.

I would expect personal homeowner's insurance, for those that had any, would cover the losses regardless of whether or not the insurance of the guy who started the fire will. If the homeowner's insurance co. wants to go after the fire starter, that's their business.
