Would this work?

Have an shed roof off one side of the barn where we store some round bales. Has gates around it but we put an electric wire to keep the cows & calves from sticking thier heads through and eating the hay.
Well, put some hay in there two days ago and after we got done the cows were at it through the gates. I realized the fence was not working.
Did not have a spare. So I just moved them to another pasture.
My son works at a dairy. I called him to see if there was one sitting around that we could use for the night. No luck.
He called back and said a guy he works with suggested hooking a battery charger to it for the nighht.
Did not do it, but have been wondering in my mind would this work.
Did not seem like a safe deal to me.

What do you think?

I don't know if it would work, but be very careful. Several years ago a local rancher had his electric fence hooked directly into the power grid. His future wife's 10 year old son got tangled up in the fence and was electrocuted. It was a terrible thing; made us all stop and look at our electric fences in a different light.

It would work; sort of. Your biggest problem being the conductivity of the gate. I still dont know that I would do it though.

Nope, will not work. I can darn near hold one in my hand.(a little one) Also most of them are setup like it has a circuit breaker and will temp. shut down after getting grounded.

Nova is right. Dont do it, if your going to get some electric to it , do it with the real thing.

A battery charger wouldn't do a thing. 15V tops. The only way they'd feel it is if you clamped both clips on their tongues. A fence charger is 7,000V.

Nope won't work, same as hooking up a battery to a fence. there's no shock there. Wrong kind of current.

It would work however, to take your old pickup truck, take one of the spark plug wires, hook it to your fence. Then start the truck up let er run. :shock: Redneck :cboy: :banana: :banana:
