Wheat when cut at the doe stage makes excellent hay. It may be hardto cure unless run through a conditioner.

I usually alternate Winter wheat and oats but I always plant mine for Winter forage, never tried baling it. In my part of the country by the time it gets big enough to cut and bale the Winter's almost gone. I suspect it would make pretty good hay, though. I think Dun's right that you should use a crimper or other conditioner when you cut it. It's a little stemy, stemmy, steamy. Oh what the heck, you get the point. (Ha)

Cows eat the heck out of it.
