Just came in from going up to the "nurse cow pasture" where I had put the cow in with the 2 calves last night with hay and grain and she had water in the troughs.
The ice looks like what @Ky hills pictures look like... it is about 1/2 " thick on the boards, and it was a #@%# getting the gate chains loose to get in there and the elec fence unhooked to go through... had to take a hammer to the gate chains to break it up....
If you had done elec fence to separate the bales for bale grazing, it would have been interesting @Ky hills ... my fence is not even working... luckily the cows won't attempt to go through it since they are well trained to it... and as long as they have something to eat... they were all standing around the rolls of hay just munching away...
Fed her inside and put another sq bale in the bunk feeder in the barn, her calves were eating grain with her and the other 2 weaned calves came in the barn to eat grain in the other side also. Water was okay, some ice I broke up with the bucket , not too thick on the one trough I took the slab of ice out of last night.
Temps hit 34 for a bit, some dripping, although it is back down to 29 and supposed to maybe get another burst of snow before it exits east and north.

It's winter....good thing is very little traffic on the road so most of the stupid people must've listened and stayed home. Everything is closed here which helps to keep the dummy's from running the roads.

Yeah I used a hammer this morning to break gate chains loose. Ice complicates everything. Our mail didn’t run today, nor will the garbage service tomorrow, but I used a mallet and broke ice off the mailbox and trash can lids they will all open, so they will be ready whenever service resumes.
I’ve got a couple short weaned calves from a nurse cow, they are in a barn, and carrying water to them with a bucket.
Got a plastic trough to water the 3 bigger beef steers, there was a part of it not froze over still slushy, it’ll probably be froze hard by morning though.
Yeah there hasn’t been a lot of traffic on our road, usually it’s really busy a state road.
Did see somebody going pretty speedy for the conditions I thought just before I took these pictures of our road yesterday.
I guess they thought being a big 4wd truck they were good to go anywhere.
Any other vehicles I saw were barely creeping. Couldn’t hardly tell the state road from our driveway except for some tracks on the road.

Our conditions are very similar to Ky Hills, only we had 3/4 of an inch of rain on top of the snow and ice last night. It just ran off and did not melt the snow or ice. Turned colder today in the 20s. They say near zero by the middle of the week.
The least fun I had today was cutting net wrap off three rolls of hay. The most fun was sleigh riding with the grandkids. The conditions were not perfect like they were yesterday, but you could really fly on the ice, on even gentle slopes.

Well, I THINK the precipitation is finished where I am. Sum total, I think we got the 12 inches of snow AND 0.1-0.2 inches of ice. We have had level 3 road conditions (that means driving is prohibited for everyone except mandatory/emergency personnel, which left me at home. My wife, however, is a manager/driver for a medical logistics company (medical supplies are critical/mandatory). It took the 'line haul' (freight delivery to 'her' warehouse this morning) 3 hrs and 15 minutes for what is usually a 2 hour trip. The PARTIAL route my wife was able to complete (conditions were/are such that she is/was unable to complete 75% of the route) took her two hours and 15 minutes for what is normally a 45 minute trip. She ordered and had driving chains overnighted to her (no extra charge, she has Amazon Prime) on Saturday and got them yesterday. She has stated that if she did not have the chains this morning, she would not have gotten out of our housing addition let alone been able to make any deliveries.

The roads have NOT been cleared yet. It is too cold here, and supposed to get colder overnight. The snow has been removed, but I suspect the roads will be very much the same tomorrow as they were today as its supposed to drop to 16 degrees tonight and only get up to 26 tomorrow early afternoon. Our salt is ineffective at below 20 degrees in this area.

My wife passed multiple vehicles that were off the road this afternoon for those that were foolish enough to get out in this weather. No cars off the road this morning, although there were no cars. Apparently the population as a whole had enough sense to respect this storm here for a change, until it got daylight and I guess drivers thought because it was no longer dark, it was safe to drive (NOT). I'm supposed to travel an hour and a half from my office to the area office tomorrow. That might not happen at this point.

I won a goldfish like that once but my little sister ate it before we even got to the gate of the fair. Something she said she saw on TV...

Bands of snow keep coming tonight. Not enough to plow but it got slick 3 times since dark. Used a lot of salt and gravel mix. Pretty windy but not a lot of accumulation.

We had lite blowing styrofoam like flurries on and off for the last couple days. The ground is MUDDY! Hoof prints are still full of water as of today. The chicken water is the only thing that froze last night. Maybe better luck tomorrow.

It started out at 15 this morning. Sun is out and wind not so bad. Cleaned off the car windshields, and it is melting some. We had another inch last night as the storm moved east and out of the area. 38 in the direct sun right now.
There is quite a hard crust from the snow covered with the half inch ice we had. This little bit of melting will just make it freeze up harder tonight... but it is making it easier to clean off vehicles and such.

Went around and put out some more hay today. They still had a little bit of two rolls left but went in an put out more. Fed them grain this morning too.
Our electric has stayed in so far hoping we through it, even though there is ice on the lines. Quite a few people in the county were without electricity.
State road in front of our house seems pretty clear now.

As you can see we didn’t get the belts sold before Christmas as I had hoped.
Probably be close to spring getting them sold at this point, might even be better.
Still open to the title of Angus schill if it pays anything, maybe even Simmental schill.
