Winter Stocking Rate

How many consider their winter stocking rate and adjust health management in the South especially.
I figure mine is 20 head or better to the acre this time of year. That one acre becomes the perfect breeding ground for brown stomach worms and a host of other pest. You look out at empty pastures and all the cows are laying around a hay ring waiting on the next welfare payment.

my stocking rate is the same all yr usually until late winter when I pull the bulls and am feeding hay fulltime
it usually runs 2 cows per acre and sometimes it can go to 4 cows per acre but usually for only a month or month and a half
right now I am running just under a cow per acre
plus I don't feed hay in feeders I roll all of mine out so don't have to worry about the build up or heavy concentration of manure affecting the cows or calves

Had we gotten a little more rain in July, some in August, a little more regular in September, and any at all in October....I probably wouldn't be feeding hay now....
