Winter is starting here.

We had our 18th frost this morning. Down to minus 7C. Many more to come. This is about 6 or so ahead of this time last year. The only difference is that last year it was much drier going into this period. Its looking bleak in our state which is now 96% drought classified. Gone up 30% in the last month.

My 11 year old son will be visiting there in late June & July. In his travel preparations, I've learned a lot more about Australia than I knew before. I'm pretty envious that he's going and I'm not.

My husband went to Australia about a year ago on business. I was envious...wanted to go along real, real bad...until I found out I'd be riding in coach class for about 16 hours.

I sure did enjoy the pictures he brought back, tho...

Had our first frost last week. Days have still been around 25C (around 77 deg F). Trees are flowering, bees are flying, how I love winter in this part of Australia :D

Carlos D, Yes I was born in Australia,my great Grandfather was French (Dads grandfather) and my great grandmother was German. So there is a mix. I have a French name. My mums side were all English. I am a full time registered nurse. We have registered Brahmans,South Devons, Herefords and South Brahvons. We also have a commercial herd of Herefords and crosses using Brahman,South Devon and the occasional Angus.
We have just over 1,000 acres at 3,000 feet on what is called eastern fall country (which means our water all runs to the east out into the Tasman sea or Pacific Ocean. We don't run any sheep as it is often considered too wet here for sheep. The Western part of our district is renowned for its fine wool Merinos (the sheep that Australia is a world leader in) We have had about another 10 frosts since my last post. Its very dry here but that is a typical winter for us.Our region (the New England) is one of the coldest in Australia for minimum morning temperatures (down to minus 15 C at times) We have beautiful winter days that get up to 15/16C. A bad day is a top of 3/4 C. Our summers are very mild usually. To have a temperature over 32C is not that common (though it has been up to 36/38C last summer.)

Still frosty here. We've had one morning in the past week thats been above minus 3 C,it was a balmy 5 degrees. There's supposed to be some rain coming at the weekend. Don't expect much to come from the south west. It needs to come from the coast this time of the year.

I'm sure he will. I'm sure I would. Looking forward to his trip and seeing everything he comes back with. Perspective of an 11 year old is usually pretty different.

Down to minus 7 C once again. Big white frost. Had 21 mls of rain over the weekend. Cows are starting to calve first ones born about three weeks ago.
