Snow on little Lookout Mt this morning. That hill is about 6,200 ft tall I am guessing that the snow level is down to about 5,000. It has been good and frosty here in the mornings. The leafs on the trees have all changed. But this is the first snow I can see from the house. Pretty soon it will be solid white and stay that way until April.

It is just around the corner. I'm preg testing tomorrow and it is supposed to be 44 for a high. So far it is looking like we won't have any wind. The farmer almanac is predicting a cooler and wetter winter. I don't mind the snow so much, but I don't like the cold.

I must have some Scandinavian Ancestry in me as I hate Texas summers. But in all honesty this year wasn’t bad. I think we had 1 day that hit 100

I would love to have a winter where the ground freezes up for a while. Its mud city here from November to April usually. Gets nasty. We seem to get a few weeks in January that freeze up good but thats about it.
Another reason to graze all winter. Keeps them out of the mud. I have a friend that strip grazes and moves daily. A couple weeks ago he was unrolling a roll in each narrow strip. It was dry so almost no waste.

The way this property is laid out, long and narrow with limited water points, they have to walk in a lane to get to the back half of the farm. The back half is my winter stockpile. By the time I finish strip grazing it, the lane is in pitiful shape. Even the tractor has trouble getting thru it.

I made hay out of half of the stockpile ground, right now im wishing I hadnt done that. Or wishing I had kept the hay. I did get 30 bucks out of the 4x4's though. Hoping to buy back some good 4x5's for the same money.

Ive got a 70 acre farm about one mile away i think im going to get to lease. Its sat idle all year. If I do get to lease it, I will be just fine with what hay ive got. Its got some impressive fescue on it right now. Plenty of other stuff too, but should be some excellent winter grazing. Itd be nice to not muddy this place up this winter. Probably a pipe dream though. Knocking on all the woods.

When I was on the coast it rarely froze but it rained every other day. I had concrete and roofs over the feed bunks. Teh worse one I remember it rained 60 inches in 120 days. Rained on 90 of those 120 days. Here the low will be below freezing almost every day now to spring and it very rarely rains. Most of the snow comes and goes in a few days. The year before we moved here it was below zero for a month and it snowed several feet. One neighbor said they were snowed in for 8 days. Also in the dead of winter the sun doesn't hit the house until 10:00 in the morning and drops behind the hills at around 2:00. As a result The road across the valley on a south facing slope will be dry and we will have a foot of snow in the back yard. So it is a trade off as far as weather goes.

Yeah, I love when it snows. But im over it in 2 or 3 days. I do hope we get a bit this winter. Seems it really helps the fescue and clover in mid to late winter.

We were a hair over 100 a couple days ago. Supposed to get in the 70/40s the next couple of days. Going to have to break out the coat. 😄

Hopefully that's the end of the warm weather. They are showing 80s from there on out.
I busted out the long johns yesterday. Was 49 and windy. And wet.
