Ok, that big ole fan can be turned off anytime now. It blew all night, and it is really getting with it this morning. I had a few calves out on what i call our hill, it is the highest place on the farm, and then noticed a couple calves crawled through the fence and was with the cows. I will sort those calves off another day, and got the ATV after feeding the cows. I thought I will check and make sure I got all the calves on the hill; I made it up the lane about half way before turning around. There was so much dirt in the air I couldn't see a thing, so I gave up and come in to drink some coffee. I'm going to need to get up on the roof once it calms down to stitch some roofing back down. I'm not really wanting to go up on that roof.

Now I have a clean up project and need to salvage the logs. I'll get a pic later today and see if anybody has some ideas what to do with the logs - the construction was kind of "unique" but the wood seems to be mostly in good shape.

Yah I've had enough. Fourth day in a row of 50-70 mph gusts and a steady 30+. We have an old cabin behind the house that blew the roof off Monday - took rafters and all. Now I have a clean up project and need to salvage the logs. I'll get a pic later today and see if anybody has some ideas what to do with the logs - the construction was kind of "unique" but the wood seems to be mostly in good shape.

Put a new roof on it and rent it as a "primitive" air bnb.

When I was running a backhoe in Rock Springs as a teenager, the older guys were always complaining about the wind. I probably heard one of them say that the wind in Wyoming blows all the dirt east one day, and then blows it back the next day... just about every day.

Is the wind pretty unusual for your area? 40 mph here sucks but fairly common. When we get in the 50+ range, that's when it gets real. And then there's the destruction of straight-line winds, which can be as bad as a tornado.

Riverton doesn't usually get much wind. Down here in the SE we get a lot of wind in the 20-40 mph range most days in the winter, but the 3-4-5 day wind storms with 50-70 mph gusts are more miserable. Only good thing this time is there isn't snow to blow around and plug everything up. Here is a pic of the old cabin that the roof blew off. The timbers are 4"-7" thick and 8"-24" in width. The end wall that blew in is 18' and it is probably around 26-28' on the side. The timbers that aren't rotten could be milled into 6" x whatever thickness it is. The wood is old pine in good shape and seems really dense, unlike modern lumber yard wood. Not going to rebuild, but may sell or could mill it and build a smaller bunkhouse type structure. Or just push it into a pile and set it on fire when we get some snow on the ground.

Like @GoWyo said we usually don't get that much wind, at least not like what he gets. Riverton sits down in a bowl and when that cold settles here it takes wind to blow it out. It was pretty windy last night and something must have scared my calves. I had six head that got through the electric fence and was out with the cows. I still got one out there with them; I guess I will try to get it sorted off tomorrow.

Been windy here as well, just about everyday a 20-40mph wind coming across the lake from Canada, with some days gusting into the 50s and 60s. They say by the weekend the windchill could dip to -30 or -40.

Add in a little snow everyday and it's down right wintery.

Next year is going to look pretty bleak next year if we don't get any snow. At least we have a few months before spring.

Yeah, the Wasatch are pretty dry. We need some snow.

Dad ran a plywood mill in the Columbia gorge. He said the wind blew 360 days of the year. The other 5 it was just changing direction.

That calf sorted off pretty easy this morning. I fed the calves, and he walked over next to them. I hopped on the ATV and got him in with the other calves. I sure like easy.

Wind finally quit here for a bit. Was up around 10-12 mph the last few days. I normally don’t mind a breeze but at -30 even a slight breeze removes the possibility of enjoying the day.

I can't really complain about the temperature. It was 52 when I went to bed wednesday at 11pm, and at 7am thursday morning it was 52. I don't know what it was with the wind chill, but it was blowing pretty good. It blew over one of my 55 gallon trash cans. So far we have had a pretty mild winter, that is if it could be called a winter. There is not much snow left over after the snow we got right after Thanksgiving.

We haven't got above 25° in 3 weeks now.

Weather guessers calling for up to 24" of white stuff this weekend and winds up to 50mph. Going to be lovely.

I spent all day outside in a T-shirt, cutting up limbs from an old apple tree I trimmed. I gave it an old school butch haircut. Hopefully it will survive.

But the day was beautiful. 56 degrees here as the sun has gone down. Thinking about a road trip tomorrow into the outback just for fun...

Replacement heifers found the weak spot a couple days ago and went to the neighbors'. Guess what I'm gonna rebuild this weekend? Be a total rebuild on about 150' little crappy stretch of fence.
