Just can’t seem to find a ceiling on this fed cattle market. Strong demand from consumers is keeping packers aggressive.
I really didn’t think we would see $2 fat cattle, but now I’m not so sure.

I think it's gonna keep climbing for a bit. The cow herd is supposedly the smallest its been in over 50 years. With 3 drought years in a row, along with cull prices, I think numbers will keep shrinking.

I'm curious to see how light the October run is going to be compared to years past. I figure lots of early weaning and selling has and will continue to take place.

Last Wednesday I saw a group of 10 black steers weighing 405 bring $3.02. This last winter people who weren't in a drought area lost a lot of new born calves to the weather. That will also reduce the fall run too.

I am not worried this year. But next year any yearlings I might have will either be sold in April or I will put the LRP on them.
