Aiding and abetting
We've had 2 horses end up dying and one that went from a pretty high priced reiner to a pasture pet because of possums. I will kill every one of them on our placeThat's a very cute baby in that picture. I don't know much about cows but I know a lot about armadillos and opossums. I was a very young girl that loved chasing armadillos. My family scared me with their ability to transmit leprosy. (I would still chase them but never touched one.) They also are not going to stay chill and let you touch them easily. Until our recent drought, I had no beef with them. But now they are digging holes all over my property. (I'm thinking I should just water more and let them eat their grubs.) Opossums are way cooler to have around. They are my all time favorite animal. I have moved two from a bad situation to a rehab life. I've told my family that the third one will live out its short life as my pet.
Possums rarely carry RabiesPossums transmit fatal diseases to horses, besides being carriers/spreaders of lepto, RABIES, fleas and ticks and the diseases they carry.... contaminate feed when they get in and tear up the bags... will steal cat food and dog food... will kill a chicken if they get in with them... are notorious egg eaters...
And you NEVER want to get bit by one....
I have no "quarrel" with them out in the field.... but once they are around the house, they are ruthlessly trapped and disposed of. Have lost more eggs and chickens to them than I care to count... and they make one he// of a mess in the feed room.
Have no experience with armadillos, but have heard enough...

Rarely isn't never.... Cows rarely have rabies either... but had one a couple of years ago on a dairy... and they were quarantined and could not sell ANY cattle, calves, NOTHING, except milk and the milk truck had to "sanitize " it's wheels for a month.... milk was tested also.... for 6 months off the farm....Possums rarely carry Rabies
it's a possum....Well, I gotta admit they are cute when young.
They've never bothered me much and there are times I've had a lot of fun with them. In fact, I'm past due.
What is that beady eyed thing on the blanket?

Had a beef cow here a couple years ago on a neighbors farm.... several people had to do the series of shots because of exposure...
To each their own... but you won't find me cuddling a possum....
