If the hay is dry when baled, why not get it in the shed as soon as possible?

I think this has already been mentioned but even the driest hay will heat a little. There is always some moisture in the hay so leaving them sit out for a couple days allows for the bales to air out a bit. If you have good solid bales one shower would do next to no damage to the hay IMO.
