A few weeks ago I went to some property I own in the Carolinas to mark some pulpwood for a thinning. While there I noticed someone had so kindly posted my property for me and while marking the timber I found a couple of nice deer stands someone had donated to me. While there, I enlisted the help of two young boys to lend a hand and I gave them permission to hunt the property for their keeping an eye on things for me. I figured it wouldn't be long before I uncovered the rat with them trompsing through the woods.

I was right. Early this morning I get a phone call from a fella who is complaining about my hunters. He said he did not know they were hunting the property and that I needed to let him know when they planned to hunt the property cause he had a system he used to keep people from getting shot on the property. He also told me that someone had stolen his stands.

Given the fact that he woke me up this morning to tell me this stuff and given the fact he was so demanding in his trespassing demands I will not repeat what I told him since this is a family board. I tell you though, just when you think people cannot be more stupid someone always steps up to the plate and proves you wrong.

If you abstain from repeating what you told him, will you at least give us the gist of it since you brought it up?
Did you explain to him that he was a poacher using "your" deer stands?

That happens on my East Texas property all the time. A game warden set up camp on the water line right-of-way running through my place opening day. 11 trespassers before noon. All had "permission" and not one even knew my name.

My nephew's deer stands have been stolen and people are coming through all the time. Nephews don't even want to hunt there any more because of all the poaching.

It is better to let the law handle such things. I get to fighting mad when I am in a stand and fools come walking through.

There's much better hunting here and there's no need for me to even hunt there. But I would like a local place for my nephews to go since they live over there.

It sounds like he is charging people to hunt on your land. Google his phone number if you have it. If he posted any online ads with it, they will show up.

Jo just make you a bunch of signs that say Public Hunting Area, and put them up around the property. That should make the ole boy real happy, and solve any trespassing problems cause everbody is invited.

I would have a chat with the local game warden and let him know about the 2 guys who do have permission and the rest don't.

Do like chippie said and see if he is doing that, would like to know if he was sending paying hunters on your place.

backhoe had a similar one on the cousins place years ago. Hunters ran off the guys who had permission. Cousin showed up and these guys claimed that they had life time permission from KC. Cousin asked them what the KC stood for they didn't know. Claimed he had told them to call him KC. Well KC never went by that name at all.
Cousin told them to get the *bleep* off his land and never come back or he would have them arrested. They never did.

i AGREE BUT GIVE THE GUYS WHO HAVE PERMISSION..... WRITTEN PERMISSION....TELL THE GAME WARDEN AND THE PERMITEES THAT THERE IS NO HUNTING WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION ON YOUR PERSON.....THEN THERE IS NO WHO STUCK JOHN OVER WHO HAS PERMISSION.

I'm with you on the written permission. Ryder, I doubt we will be exchanging Christmas cards. If you can picture Ronald Reagan's thumb on the button then you can imagine how I went ballistic when the fella told me that I needed to call him before anyone went out there hunting. To make matters worse, it hasn't been very long since I paid the land taxes and for this fella to dictate to me what I did on my land was ...... well .... lets just say not the best thing for him to have done. Especially if he has thin skin.

This has got to be the most stupid person I've ever talked to. And yes, I'm sure he was renting the rights out. I've since done some homework on him and know lots more about him than he does me. He'd better hope he doesn't show up on the property with a firearm or I'll see to it that he gets sent back to prison where he should still be after selling drugs to kids. Or maybe I need to keep a shovel handy.

don't know about there.... but here the game wardens have all the authority of the state police. covicted felon with a firearm is a big no no...

Had a neighbor buy out our one uncle. This hunter came in and told me that I needed to tell this neighbor that he could not rent out that place to outfitters. Told the hunter that that was none of my business and since he had the deed and paid the taxes it was nobodies business what he did on his place. We haven't had that hunter back out either.

I talked to the game warden today and he now understands the situation. I don't want this idiot causing trouble for the guys hunting it. He offered some good suggestions that I'll be following.

For those of you who might find yourself in Jo's position: If you know the name of the trespasser, deliver him/her a letter that says they are not allowed on/are trespassed from your property. Let your local law enforcement know that, and have them make a short report, that you reported. If it happens again, go back to L.E. with your letter and your report, and ask that they be charged. And, again, the next time. Not sure what the law is in all states, but generally, once they have notice, every time they do it again the "degree" of trespass gets higher, as do the consequences.

We had a neighbor that had a guy going in on him, back when deer were rare. Finally caught up with him one day when he was on horse back. He asked to check out his rifle. Then proceeded to tell the old boy how the mule eats the corn. After the trespasser became mouthy, the rancher told him he would return his gun to the ranger or sheriff when the guy turned himself in for tresspassing. Long story, his boy got a new deer rifle and the trespassing stopped.

Now the way the law reads, you have to have written permission here on you at all times or you can be fined $1500!
