why does paying $ 3.11 since a gallon for regular 87 make me feel like I won the lottery ? Thats crazy when I was growing up gas was .78 cents a gallon at my earliest memory of it.

I remember paying a quarter a gallon for it.. get a tankful for $5 . those were the days.. but now? I dont even look too much athe price of it. it goes up and down so much.. save a dollar one week.. spend 2 the next.. gotta have use it.. so it is what it is.. and I pay for it no matter what it is.

Very true .. but the BP here you need to get a 2nd mortgage to fill up there. Thats the only place I avoid.

I remember $.25 per gallon when they had gas wars on the Missouri & Arkansas state line.

Here is what drives a good piece of gas prices.

Before Dear Leader took the reins, I was paying $1.84, And was not happy about that.
Now I'm supposed to be joyful for just over $3.20 .

You can mitigate high fuel costs in many ways--I did, and do.

In the mid 60s, when I took my first job, a wise man told me:
You need to invest some of your money so it will grow. Invest in something that people buy every day or every week. People buy a new refrigerator every 5 years--a new car every 4 or 5 years, a new house once or twice in a lifetime. They buy gasoline every single week. ". 45 years later, there's a little sign at my entrance gate that says "D&J Farm--the Place that Exxon built". The qtrly dividends still offset my fuel bill considerably, and it's why/how I paid cash for my house in 2009, my 4 vehicles and everything else I buy and how I was able to retire at age 59 completely debt free. People love to hate on Big Oil, but it's been very good to me, whether gas is $1.00/gallon or $4/gallon.

First tank of gas I ever filled up was .53 a gallon (around 1979-80).

Now I drive a 1-ton diesel with a 45 gallon tank... you do the math!! :bang:

Everything's relative!
In the early 50s I paid .25 cents a gallon for "regular". However, the average wage for college degreed people was about $250. a month. Go figure. Bread was .25 cents a loaf. Now it is almost $3.00 a loaf for the good stuff. The list goes on and on... My first "real" full time job with a BS degree paid $285. a month...etc.

A buck and half would get you enough gas for a date night and the mandatory driving around. Gas wars and it hit a dime.

they make you feel like paying $3.25 a gal is cheap when it goes to $4 a gal or more.i doubt if we will ever see $3 or much less $2.50 a gal.

Don't know if this is still true but it has been for a long time - an ounce of gold will buy the same amount of gas as it did in the 20's. As long as people keep their hands out and keep drinking the kool aide the printing presses will keep spitting out monopoly money and gas and everything else is only going to get more expensive until all the gold is sitting over in India and China and the world changes the world currency and then my friends those Kool Aide drinkers will see they were misled.

I was just listening to Tom T Hall... When gas was $.30 a gallon... and love was just 60 cents away

I have a 1 ton diesel and it costs me $140 to fuel up if it's still got some left in it... Diesel is 1.40/L here, so that works out to about 5 bucks a gallon... stop whining you guys!

My grandpa had the same idea. First well popped up in the 60's, got three pumping now.
If oil goes higher may have another pump jack pop up.

Dang, you guys make me feel old. I worked in a gas station when I was a kid and gas was $.25 a gallon, sometimes lower than that when a gas war was going on. Oh yea, for 25 cents a gallon you got your oil checked, windshield cleaned, tire pressure checked and the station pumped the gas.

When I was in high school, we would drive across town so that we could buy gas for .26 per gallon instead of 27. I wish I'd listened to GB years ago. :dunce:
