Ive heard processing corn is better for animals with bad teeth as they dont chew it because they cant but im not gonna be the one thats starts CattleFeeding War III

I'm a veteran of this battle so here is my two bits worth...
I read an article that was published in Iowa, UI I believe, anyway it stated that the cow will chew enough of the corn to crack the shell and be able to absorb the nutrients. Well, our cows didn't read the article so after I bought a ton of whole corn to give it a try I found that the girls were seeding the pasture with corn kernals. Went back to cracked corn and seem to have a much higher digestion rate. We get cracked at the same price as whole so we stick with it...seven cents/pound. Just fill the pick-up, a 3/4 ton will hold 3200# slightly mounded; a real fun drive on packed snow, 4x4 at 25mph all the way home.
And that's all I have to say about that...so there :secret:

I feed whole, rolled, or cracked, whatever I have available to me at the time. They seem to do fine with either/or/etc.

Chevy, GMC and Nissan.

I am feeding whole corn as I can buy it for $1.80 cheaper per 100#. That is a huge difference in price to me at least.
By the way - Chevy hands down

Im goin with processing it cost 22 dollars a ton but i believe i gain atleast that much back out of it in more energy gain but its really an up in the air topic that i dont know how they havent got good results on yet it shouldnt be that hard to figure out

OK for those not willing to go read previous posts.
Cracked corn is 8% more efficient than whole shell corn. If you can purchase CC for 8% less than WC - fine.
The whole kernals that you see our in the pasture have all the nutrients pulled out.
If you took a pile of manure from a cow that had cracked corn - and had a way of filtering it, you would find - pound for pound just as much corn as the whole corn manure pile. You just can't SEEE it.
And, actually, that is OLD info. I recently read a new research that showed NO DIFFERENCE in whole Vs cracked.
BUT, you have LESS health issues (if pushing high volume of feed) with WC. The research had whole, rolled, steam flaked & cracked. I was a little skeptical, I still think that real expensive steam flaked is SOOOOO good. Just like Corn Flakes cereal.
